Who would you have gone with?

Ok, so as I said in another comment, I think DA really pulled the wrong string with Jono Wright. I don't blame him, he doesn't have enough experience to cope marking a bloke like Morris. I do wonder what Ando was thinking though, as his defensive inexperience was even highlighted in the game he played earlier this year.I guess there were three options.1) Move Ben Smith to centres, Brod Wright to 2nd row, Latimore to prop2) Put Etu on the wing3) Put Tautai on the wingI'll probably get pummelled for this but I'd have put Tautai in, just because he can play the same game as Eric does. The one thing he did do well last year was bring the ball back off his own line. I honestly believe you just have to have one big winger in your side. That said, Etu has always been pretty safe for us and would have been the safest option.I had initially thought 1 would have been the best move, but I think we did need Ben in the forwards given Hindy wasn't there.

  • As strange as this sounds, I think Tautai would have been a good option, he may not have the speed but is the metre eater option and could have done the roll Eric has particularly inside our own 20 metre line. They rarely kicked down that side anyways, so I doubt Tautai would have been exposed as such.
  • tough call simmy,.... apparently they only found out about eric less than 1 hr b4 kick off... so it was a rushed decision for all staff to make. even tuff for jon wright to get up and ready.... all i can say is he showed a serious lack of confidence in all categories tonight for a 1st grader... at least 3 dropped balls, 3 tries from opposing winger and at one stage he was on other wing passin ball to burt in corner whom eventually dropped it over line... so he was in no mans land alot tonight... unfortunatley for parra. i hate to say it but he cost us the game in many ways...and a w Bennett coached side exploited him very well..
  • #1 was the only option imo. Tautai has been tried and failed. Etu is untried.
    • etu drops the ball more than anyone... so no etu... too many fundamental errors in his game.. having said that j wright dropped it at least 3 times tonight..poor bloke..
  • i'd of givin the nod to etu, i really like him
  • Goes to show the lack of good quality depth in the outside backs doesn't it?
We'll have Tahu next year and you can be guaranteed he'll pully a hammy at some stage. Better hope both Burt and Grothe stay.
  • We are all geniuses in hindsight. The coach made the call and is in a far better position than us. Young Wright was given a bath by Morris but he will not be the first nor last to be in that position. Who is to say others mentioned would have done any better. Morris is a very, very good player.

We were well and truly beaten by a more hungry team. That being said, we are back to playing sudden death next week and that is when we seem to play our best footy. The forwards were clearly out muscled tonight but we will have Hindy back next week.

On the positive side, Feleti played plenty of minutes and looked threatening. He will only improve next week. Mortimer was terrific again and Hayne never stopped trying. I just hope all you Lowrie and Robson dettractors keep your traps shut and remain positive. They weren't the reason for the loss.

Next week is a whole new ball game. The Bulldogs got flogged too and I'm sure they won't be throwing in the towel. The Tigers got a hiding the week before the 2005 finals and went on to win the comp. Our form over the last 8 weeks has been outstanding and tonight should not dettract from that. We probably all got ahead of ourselves and we have now received a reality check.

Can't wait for next week and a rematch with the Dragons or a Bulldogs without Kimmorley.
    • Good call Parra Mafia... I still think we have a massive showing next week. I guarantee you we will not play like that again in the semi's.
    • Sure, Morris was excellent, but Wright was still the wrong move. Lacked any speed, made a lot of errors, and didn't provide any help coming off our own line.
  • I agree. Tautai onto the wing
