Poppas Corner; JAC is proving to be a real Jewell

After last night I could "wax lyrical" about Mitch Moses.....I honestly did not think a single player could make so much difference to that side.

BUT I would like to talk about JAC, he may not be as fast as he once was, but he is quicker than anything we have had for a long time.

BUT No 2, every young winger in Parramatta can learn by his positional judgement. You just cannot believe the type of players we have had on the wing, have had no idea on how to read the situation. Yes JAC will still get caught out but his judgement is very high, he also gives us that polish at the finish that we had from Sivo, albeit in a much different style.

Finally what JAC has, has been pretty well understated to date, but now we have some creative players back in the side, I think we will really reap the benefits of his presence (yes I know about the goalline mistake he made last night....shit happens, but he made up for it 5 minutes later with some extraudinary stuff).

One thing I will say about the side last night is "game awareness" Moses and JAC demonstrated it in "spades", just imagine if Lomax was around to get under some of those kicks.

  • Once they move Sean russell out of first grade for good we might actually get some where.  Luck has been on his side for the amount of first grade he has played ...time to move on Sean  you are a tryer but we need better and there are a lot better

  • How do you earn the right to criticise someone else who is better than you at what they do.? We all do it I suppose. Is it right? One of those we have to figure out at some point in our life. Just saying this as I have a very good friend who found out he has 6 to 12 months life left in him.

  • Bevan French was a gun. He was brilliant in 2016, scorching 19 tries or something.

He was great in 2017 playing fullback and wing.

2018 he was exiled to reserve grade because Brad Arthur couldn't work out how to use a winger that was light.

Very similar build to JAC who has had an amazing career since 2017.

Bevan French has been killing it in the superleague playing 6. Jai Field has also been killing it playing fullback. Another player BA let go because he couldn't work out how to use him.

BA had a long history of missing useful players. Greg Marzhew was stuck in wenty for years. Became a gun for other clubs. Jamal Fogarty was stuck too. Now he's a gun for Canberra. Tui Kamikamika was another, now a gun for Melbourne. Ryan Matterson was also stuck in went until the Roosters picked him up and he won a premiership for them. And then we bought him back later for an inflated price.

The amount of mismanagement from O'Neil and Arthur with our roster has been borderline criminal. Negligent. Incompetent.

    • Just curious , who would you have dropped in 2017 during the one season Jamal Fogerty was in our system for him to replace ?  Bearing in mind he didn't get a start for any NRL club after he left for 2018 or 2019 .  Matto signed with the Roosters the same year he was promoted from under 20s to Reggie's ,  how's that anything to do with the coach not knowing how to utilise him or him being stuck ? Matto literally was moving through the system as quick as possible and jumped as soon as the money came offering.

People don't have to praise BA , hate the khunt all you like , but at least be realistic when having your rants otherwise you just sound plain retarded.

French being light wasn't the issue , French being light and not being good enough to not get dominated was the issue. He couldn't hold his own like a Merritt. His confidence was shot and he wanted to play FB , and was just overall not happy. Nobody in the NRL threw him a lifeline.

      • To be honest wiz, I couldn't remember what year Fogarty was in our system. Just that he was in the wenty team and never had a run in first grade for us. Not one single game.

Clearly he matured later in his career, or his talent wasn't recognised, but how do you think he is doing now Wiz? He's got at least 2 clubs fighting over his signature right now as a starting halfback with one of the best kicking games in the league. Maybe he was just overlooked by clubs, including us and other clubs, before he got his shot. Or maybe you are right and he wasn't ready yet. Maybe we could have used him in 2018 when we stunk and got the spoon? Maybe he could have done better than Corey Norman, who we played over him.

Ryan Matterson we had signed for 3 seasons back in 2015. He played one full season for Wenty in 2015 when parra were shite. Then we released him from his contract so he could play for the Roosters. By 2016 he was in first grade, by 2018 he won a premiership. Then we bought him back in 2020 for an inflated price. My point was that he could have played for us the entire time, had we managed it correctly. Trent Robinson saw some value in him that Brad Arthur couldn't see.

        • Matto left because he wanted to play in the halfs. He saw himself as a 5/8 BA saw him as a second rower. Robbo agreed with BA

Fogarty was in our system less than half a season, he struggled with living in Sydney.  Some players are late bloomers, I remember Cody Walker running around in the Qcup in his mid twenties

Jai Field is lightning quick but he's a step below NRL standard fullbacks.

Just because a coach doesn't think a player is ready doesn't mean they don't recognise the talent

          • Exactamondo, when Brian Smith held Hayne back it's safe to say it wasn't because Smith didn't think he had the talent considering Hayne was a clear standout in Reggie's as was Inu. Some players just aren't ready yet . They're just kids after all, a real man manager realises that their actions can influence these kids for the rest of their lives.  If they're not physically ready they can set them up for a career of injuries , or early injuries which can fuck their whole career whilst their injured the game can bypass them before they get their shot, or they can crumble mentally as a kid not prepared for the journey back to fitness, or they ( like Hayne ) can become an entitled big head that's never had to earn their spot.

        • Raptor , I know exactly now Fogerty is going now , he was dragged out of QLD cup and developed by Justin Holbrook . He was sitting right in front of how many coaches up there previously ?   Yet are you claiming that Brad Arthur didn't see his talent 3 years prior when he was playing shit in our lower grades lol.

maybe have a bit of education on the topic ,

Fogarty credits Arthur’s “straight-shooting nature” as one of his biggest learning curves in the game.

“But that conversation (about leaving Parramatta) with BA wasn’t the tough one,” he says.

“It was more telling my partner that I’d worked my backside off to get an NRL gig, we were there, but I wasn’t happy. That was tougher given the sacrifices we’d made.

“That said, I learnt a lot from BA given how honest and up front he is with his conversations.

He showed me that you don’t want conversations to be all warm and fuzzy. You want the truth. Nothing was sugar coated and that was the best thing for me that I learn at that point.”

  • French was highlight footage but the fact of the matter he was in the game at the wrong time the winger and outside back position evolved to being a yardage and do the tough carry's spelling your middles as it's go too which wasn't Frenchs forte.

Now the games gone the other direction again he may well have suited how the game is today. In those yrs when French did well the wingers role changed as mentioned and certain body types succeeded more so than others.

    • French literally won Wigan the game against Panthers in the challenge. I think he could cut it in the NRL if he returned. But I see many reasons why he won't return to the NRL

      • He seems comfortable in the SL where is seen as the best player in the comp.
      • The track record of halves/fb from SL succeeding in the NRL is quiet low. However he did do well in the NRL in his rookie seasons
      • If he came back, it wouldn't be for a top team and it probably won't be for much coin. So the real motivation to return would have to be some homesickness which I doubt since he has been there for ages including when his mother was ill and eventually passed away. The other possible motivation would just to prove that he is a top player even in the NRL.

So after alll of that, I see him staying in the SL. I think he could cut it at 5/8 or fullback in the NRL. Preferable fullback.

But a big reason he's making this impact is because a lot of starch has gone out of the game so his energy and enthusiasm comes to the fore…"

"Yea I like Samrani as a 17 rather than a starting backrower. Tuilagi will probably be selected this week with Guymer back on the bench or cup. Latu needs a couple more games in Cup before being a chance of NRL selection I would think."
