Poppas Corner; JAC is proving to be a real Jewell

After last night I could "wax lyrical" about Mitch Moses.....I honestly did not think a single player could make so much difference to that side.

BUT I would like to talk about JAC, he may not be as fast as he once was, but he is quicker than anything we have had for a long time.

BUT No 2, every young winger in Parramatta can learn by his positional judgement. You just cannot believe the type of players we have had on the wing, have had no idea on how to read the situation. Yes JAC will still get caught out but his judgement is very high, he also gives us that polish at the finish that we had from Sivo, albeit in a much different style.

Finally what JAC has, has been pretty well understated to date, but now we have some creative players back in the side, I think we will really reap the benefits of his presence (yes I know about the goalline mistake he made last night....shit happens, but he made up for it 5 minutes later with some extraudinary stuff).

One thing I will say about the side last night is "game awareness" Moses and JAC demonstrated it in "spades", just imagine if Lomax was around to get under some of those kicks.

  • I always liked French. His poor last year with us should never happened an poorly managed as can be seen how he excelled in a more favourable environment.

  • Very good to see so much support for Beven French has on here , he was also a young man while he as with us but could always see his potential

    • Yes , He was a young man , amd this is where coaches can't win. He gets held back until hes more prepared , another club swoops in and signs them and everyone loses their shit, you bring them on too early , they may be talented , but they're not mentally prepared for the huge highs and lows. Guys like a Bellamy or a Bennett have the luxury of being able to hold them back a little bit longer without the risk of losing them as their reputations assist them in doing so.  If a Wayne tells you he thinks you need a bit more time to develop , it's much more likely your ego stays in check than if a coach with less runs on the board tries to tell you the same thing.

      • Now thats a much more responsible and constructive approach Wiz, see there was no need for your "hyperbole".

Continuing on, there is a lot of truth in what you say. I have no doubt that French's physical maturation is one of the main reasons he came through in ESL. He is a lot thicker in his body and limbs than when he was rag dolled around NRL.

One point I failed to mention but was always there is that French's demise in Sydney was basically him doing his posterior ligament and choosing to have it removed rather than rehab.

This decision was heavily influenced by BA as French was proving himself quiet a weapon, but when a player loses his posterior ligament and you rely on a body swerve and side step, not to mention outright speed then that player is negated.

Yes having it removed enabled a quicker recovery but it inhibited the player's lateral ability.

It ultimately took French 2 years to rebuild the strength to bring back his old skills. This was the real reason that BA stuffed up and effectively lost him to Parra. i.e. by playing him when physically not capable and demoting to reserves and pushing him out!

As an aside to this, we have seen Walsh from Bronco's develop this injury in the last week, them saying he will be out for 6/8 weeks. I will watch his comeback closely, as he has the same skills as French and it will be interesting to see how he is effected.

        • If you think any coach , whether it be Wayne or B-Rad , has an ounce of influence over a player having different surgery options executed , we need to finish our discussions right here .  Like any workplace , by law , that's a job for the medical professionals and the player to decide.  Suggesting a coach would dare stick his 2 bobs worth in in any way shape or form is so far wide of the mark it's not funny.  Talk about opening yourself up for litigation.   Even his spot in the team wouldn't have been remotely in this discussion.

But a big reason he's making this impact is because a lot of starch has gone out of the game so his energy and enthusiasm comes to the fore…"

"Yea I like Samrani as a 17 rather than a starting backrower. Tuilagi will probably be selected this week with Guymer back on the bench or cup. Latu needs a couple more games in Cup before being a chance of NRL selection I would think."
