Lots happening around the world today and the world is in the process of reshaping the future and we are going into unknown territory. Optimism or pessimism Maybe a subject we don't want to think about. We have little control of where we are going or do we?

  • I will take this to another level. AI can sense you and your profile with algorithms to fit your profile  Eg  AI can already write books, poems, and music and create artwork to please your individual profile. Theoretically, it will be able to generate a  Friday night football game with a result to please you. Distorted reality? We live in one now .sounds like it may all get quite bizarre. Everybody is  A WINNER.?

There are lots of movies about dystopia now eg Squid game,

    • AI where PArra wins a comp or 3 hey I can live with that lol...give me that blue pill ....

  • TAD, Thanks for sharing that. It was interesting even if I haven't read any of renowned Isreali historian Harari's books.

Some of what he said reminded me a bit of Stephen Hawkings warnings on climate change, nuclear disaster or technological engineering - heading for "disaster or the stars". But just with far less decisiveness and open questioning.

Well, for all the climate rethoric it hasn't made as much as a blip on the climate question.

We came close to nuclear threat recently with the Ukraine-Russia war. It's likely to arise again. And maybe next time, we won't be so lucky.

It's difficult to predict the future, and whether we'll even last until the sun gives up the ghost - but in the interim AI will probably be used for as much harmful purposes as the good it brings. A minority will benefit heavily from it.

Hariri said "We're completely hackable". Well, everything is, these days. If they wanted to know what colour underwear you were wearing right now or what you buried in your background  - any secret that wasn't in your head - they could find out in very little time with the help of AI systems without getting off the chair. There is no real privacy these days. You'd need to be ultra wealthy with your own cyber team to have a hope in hell of any privacy. People seem to live in a naive bubble on this matter. I reckon oneday we'll see something like the AI God-like manifestation we saw on Mission Impossible's Dead Reckoning.

Hawking said "aliens wouldn't want to be our friends" and if you were an advanced species looking at us from beyond and our history, could you blame them?

We don't learn from history too much. Hopefully, one day humanity evolves into something more, but it probably will take a huge disaster or us hitting rock bottom. And even then, I'm not so sure...

One of Hawking's Last Messages For Humanity Was a Warning We Should All Heed
If Stephen Hawking was a star, he'd have gone out like a supernova.
    • Just came across your post HOE in my spam box. Stephen Hawkins is an amazing brain. We should listen to people like him to get a sense of where we could be headed. I did come across some material that there are other more advanced friendly planetary civilisations who will make their presence felt at some time in the future ( maybe even near future). Who knows they may even become our saviours. ?  I think we have been in a mess for too long

"Yea I like Samrani as a 17 rather than a starting backrower. Tuilagi will probably be selected this week with Guymer back on the bench or cup. Latu needs a couple more games in Cup before being a chance of NRL selection I would think."

"Yep thats the thing. I dont think anyone expected some players to be so much on the outer and JR blood so many younger players. Its why we are suffering this short term pain. Hopefully its better for the long run."
