Would Moses leave the Eels.

He’s already gone after Mitch Moses’: Benji wasting no time recruiting for Tigers

Fox Sports:

Incoming Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall has wasted no time trying to recruit talent, while some of the club’s current stars aren’t expected to play under him.

Marshall, who will replace Tim Sheens as the Tigers coach in 2025, has already approached Eels halfback Mitchell Moses about a return to Concord.

Sheens has handed control of the roster to Marshall and the latter must decide who stays between Adam Doueihi, Luke Brooks and Jackson Hastings - who all want to play in the halves.

NRL 360 host Braith Anasta asked the panel on Wednesday night who Marshall will be trying to sign first.

He’s already gone after Mitch Moses,” Paul Kent responded.

“Sheens has put him in charge of their roster and their cap at the moment, he’s making him have a good look at that because good coaching comes down to good recruitment.

“Wayne Bennett said for years the best coaches are the best recruiters, that’s the secret. So first cab off the rank for Benji is to learn that, look at the roster, work out where you’re getting value for money and where you don’t.

  • Oh please, he took 250k less to get out of that joint in 2017.

  • I think the appointment of Benji as undserstudy is a smart move from the tigers, he'll give them the heart they are missing.

Maybe not from a coaching perspective, but from a recruitment and substance level, its a good move imo.

Hes still young enough to relate to players and help build something, give the club some heart and soul at a professional level, he's not a dumb bloke either.

    • Agree Snake, well said.

Feel we could use someone with passion & heart for the club somewhere in the ranks at Parra, not necessarily a coach but somewhere.

    • he did well on the tv show. I like how sheens appionted him the salary cap as his day 1 task

      Love you snake

    • Though Bert, with Ciraldo and Woolf "Apparently" hired elsewhere, who do we hire if the players are tired of BA to please Moses? Note i do not condone hiring a coach to make a player happy. Just arguement sakes bringing it up.

But i do not think Moses will go anywhere.

      • Flanagan. Or we just keep re-signing BA year after year until we are all dead.

The club always seems to the last dog to the bone in decision making and recruiting.

        • No thanks to Flanagan.

          • Oversaw a peptide program (or if you believe him, he had no idea what players were being injected with - just as bad)
          • Oversaw a program which busted the salary cap in 5 of the 6 years in and around 2016 (wow, who would have thought they were allegedly compliant the year the NRL wanted them to win the comp)
          • Decided that the ban handed to him by the NRL not to contact the club and players after the peptide scandal didn't actually apply to him

He has a very poor Governance record and should never allowed back by the NRL at a coaching level.

Notwithstanding all of that, what has he actually achieved in his various consulting / support roles since? St George haven't improved since he has been there.

          • Yet some of the same people who say this would have Bellamy here too.

            • Bellamy's only issue was the salary cap rorting. He doesn;t have all of the other issues Flanagan has.

My point regarding Flanagan not being allowed near the NRL again has less to do with the salary cap as nearly every team has done, or is currently breaking it, but more to do with the peptides and his blatant breach of sanctions handed to him.

I would take Bellamy here in a heartbeat. I thought Melbourne would crumble once Smith, Cronk, Slater left. But he's managed to keep them successful.

              • Flanagan did his time, past 2014 he was sweet away from the petides. He got suspended in 2014, and his 2018 suspension came from the 2014 scandal, was not like he did it again or anything. Simply negotiated with the club while suspended. I think he has done his time.

Honestly we might need that bit of risk taking and get up and go in us as a coach instead of playing it safe all the time. Within reason of course.
