We coud be at least be 2 or 3 wins further up if we had some more astute work from the coach. Although many on here rave about Ryles - and personally I like him and the things he is trying to do - he is making as many rookie errors as any of the players.

What does "astute" mean? It means tactically aware, understanding weaknesses, communicating clearly and applying all the correct resources available.

One of the obvious things last night was that Ryles overplayed Moses role - we became so predictable. We need more tactical adaptibiity and creativity.

Farnsworth sat defensively on Moses when ever he went to the blindside he loves. Just about every set Moses got his hands on the ball (nothing wrong with that) but every time the variation was negligible. There had to be room for shorter kicks as well as the perenial long ones. Not once did Moses really take a run. Were there occasions he could have lifted the pace? Could Moses sometimes be used as a dummy with a point of attack coming from somewhere else?

Are we contestng the ball enough? Having your kicker back is one thing, but at no stage did we get into a position to really challenge the receiver. On the odd occasions we did, we did not contest the kick. It seems the players are under instructions to stand next to the receiver and hope he drops the ball. I do not understand this non contested kicks. The same applies with the drop outs and in some cases defensively where they allowed the attacking side to make the mistake. That's fine when it works, but bloody awful if it doesn't. Perhaps, it is in part the fear of being penalized or sin binned? It's an areas that is undermining us.

Another issue is Ryles' selections.

Matterson should have been playing last night and he would have provided a completely different drive from the "pigs". I thought Junior tried hard but he was a bit out of sorts, almost like him needing to be prodded to get moving (herding cattle). Nothing wrong with Hopgood and Williams games, they are the workers in the pack and the people on here do not understand that or more the point appreciate it.

Russell is honest as the day is long, just a second grader filling in and he stops progress by not creating anything. Does him being solid actually weaken our game?

This game was there for either team to win on the night. Unfortunately, it was a flick of the coin and we lost.

One final thing: people need to get over the constant BA bashing. The guy has gone. But it seems that anything the side does badly is laid on his shoulders. The other things we need to understand are that its fine to have plenty of money to spend, but unless the people we want want to come to Parramatta and play for us, then they won't come! Build it and they will come, selections and poor communication with players is not part of building anything. There are players in Reserve Grade that are going well that are not geting a look in, there are players in first grade that seem to being favoured, I don't no why?

  • Moses needs to mix it up play closer to the ruck on occassion not one dimensional ....should of taken some cues from Kodi Nickorima, his short plays up against the grain and up the guts were really effective ..then again our defense is not adapable to whats in front of them ..Iongi for all his positivies his abilty in the clutch and defensively a long long way to go.   As for Boobie man ...he is a ball runner nothing more some real shit on tackle 5 from him.....

I can see the 2026 media copy now every jorno frothing at the 40 years no premiership narrative ....yeah thats going to be fun NOT

    Cmon Ryles smarten up

    • We should have iced this game easily but blew it with dropped and pinched balls.

Russell can't convert from wide, but will Lomax take over the kicking next week or will he follow Mitchells concern with re-injuring his foot, with Origin near.

Hope Matto can be persuaded to leave as soon as possible with us throwing in $200 K to assist his departure.

      • Agree with you Richard, but if you were getting Matto to leave early, there must be a reason, otherwise he will strengthen his (Ryles/our) side,

I just thought of this as I replied to Richard, is it possibe that in terms of his contract that he has to pick Ryles in the 22 or 18 to satisfy a clause where maybe Matto could take legal action. That clause maybe subject to form, which he basically meets. Otherwise why bother picking him in the 22 at all and just play him Reserve Grade or even lower for that matter.

        • I consider a clause like that in the guys contract would be a stretch Pops.

I know you rate Matto but I never could, and once again it has nothing to do with choosing to take the time out and not pay 'that' fine.

I remember when Matto would show some ball-making skills and be an assett to his team, now I see him as doing just enough to get a pass mark from the coach and make sure he doesnt get injured.

He was a good player once, no more.

          Are we still pals Pops.....chuckle.

          • Richard, we will always be pals, I have great respect for you. You were always in the trenches when we needed support.

Your comment you refer to is reality and my comment was "rabid supposition" I didn't believe it, just creating a rediculous exercise that could justify the actions that are being taken.

One final thing is its not a case of "rating" Matto, it's just he is better than the alternatives we are using. I can see the question marks, just don't think he qualifies for the death penalty...lol

  • Don't know how this person did this but maybe we need to find the recipe (. One of my silly moments)

  • Poppa I don,t bet except on Melbourne cup races. My daughter got a tip from someone who is an only sometimes punter who says he does well from his source She thinks it is Elpaso running in Caulfield. I couldn't see an Elpaso running but there is a horse called Elrocko running. I might throw a couple of dollars on it. I gave this game up years ago and hope I don't win as I don't want to get on that wagon again

    • I think El Rocko won last week Taddy.

If its in today as well I will let you know.

One thing to remember, I love horse racing, just like football. Backing horses is a mugs game, so its all about being able to afford to lose.....anything you win becomes a bonus for that enjoyment.

      • Gambling in itself is easily addictive. I came across two old friends recently. One lost $ 300,000 plus in the space of 2 years the other one lost over a million over a period of years and had to downsize their home all due to Poker machines. They were not what you would consider as stupid people either. So sad

        • My biggest issue with NRL is it's open embrace of gambling outlets. The blanjket broadcast and normalisation of bookie odds during NRL games integrates gambling and the game in the minds of the young.

To me, this amounts to grooming our children....preparing the ground to allow for later exploitation.

Why do we, as parents and grandparents, allow this on our watch?...it was not always like this, in the past we recognised the harm, and acted at a societal level to mitigate it. We still know the harm, but the money has spoken....youth and integrity(gambling incentivizes corruption) be fucked.
