As I’ve stated a few times, I’ve spent a lot of time recently making contact with senior business executives and professionals with Parramatta connections and what has been really heart warming, was to hear so many of them say: “I’d be happy to put my hand up in the right circumstances, but just as happy to offer any support if there are better qualified people than myself.”
These are CEO-level executives we’re talking about. It’s amazing when you step outside of the factional warfare, how different the attitude is to the “I’ll run the club or nobody will” philosophy that has been all too prevalent at our club.
And that’s the beauty of the merit-based board proposal. Nobody needs to organise a ticket. There doesn’t need to be any campaigning. You don’t need to do deals. You don’t need to make compromises or promise this or that. Because the only way you can work yourself onto a board, under this model, is to be well-qualified.
I’ve seen first-hand all the ugly sides of elections. Candidates playing off tickets against each other and vice versa. And then the inevitable recriminations and spite that comes with not being put on a ticket or not getting elected. And we wonder why post-election the club disintegrates into political in-fighting?
So in many ways, the situation we find ourselves in now, is a gift. It’s a chance to reset. A chance to start with candidates who don’t get onto the board via contesting an ugly political fight. It's a circuit breaker to factionalism developed over more than a decade of fiercely
It’s an opportunity to build a board - actually two boards - in exactly the same way a private enterprise would, by making sure you have not just the best seven candidates but also the right mix of skills and expertise. And we have the opportunity now given recent constitutional changes to approach that from both a Leagues Club and NRL club perspective.
For many Eels supporters they think about the board, purely through the lens of football. But let’s remember, the Leagues Club is an entity in it’s own right and is building towards being a hundred million gaming and entertainment group. We need directors on that board, who are focused on that business. We need directors with experience and skills in hospitality, project management and gaming. Because ultimately a successful Leagues Club is a competitive advantage for the Football operation.
It is also an opportunity to define the mix of skills and experience that are needed to run both businesses effectively, giving members a framework from which to make future election decisions.
From there, we have a spring board for even further constitutional reform. Reforms like triennial voting may mean we never need to see an ugly ticket-based election again. It could well be that out of the ashes that something beautiful is born.

I whole heartedly agree, we desperately need change, this is the best way forward for the club.

Out of the ashes..........the Pheonix rises

God this club needs to be re-born, the crap us supporters have copped this last 30 years is gut renching, yet we won't stop supporting the players and the colours...ever
Should get fui to photo shop an eel into the phoenix's mouth
It's pretty frustrating to read all this propaganda like subliminal message type stuff of late Phil. It's seemingly more of the same whispering around corners stuff we expect from our club . No offence but it reminds me of that Simpsons episode , Yvan eht nioJ . You've supported the wrong people in the past mate , what makes you so sure you've got it right this time? It'd be nice to get an idea of who is lurking behind the scenes .
I just don't understand why names are secret unless there's a fear that there character isn't rock solid .
Yeh, so I addressed this elsewhere Wiz, as Poppa notes. We're not putting together a ticket. That's half the point. I've spoken to some people to encourage them to put their hand up because I wanted some confidence that if we went this route there would be people to step up. But there is no "ticket", it's not a "gang". And precisely because I am not a HR professional, I don't want to be responsible for picking people to be on the board. I'm more than happy to leave that to professionals. That's half the problem this club has gotten itself into. People not understanding where there own skill set lies and stops, and acting within their capabilities.
If not then why are you replying on Phils behalf ( again )
I think it's quite fair that if we are to have politically angled threads pushed on us we are to know whom we are listening to as well as Phil isn't it ? Nobodies questioning anyone's honesty Poppa just enquiring so I'll ask you to refrain from making any suggestions that I've been a victim of some make believe decisions against me which is driving my curiosity as some kind of revenge . Are we not allowed to ask questions of Phil because he owns the site just as we would if it was say Jarhish or some other monkey ? Kinda bias isn't it Poppa ?
