It was clear toeven Stevie wander we lacked forward lastnight, and with Ryles clering the decks & with the possability of JR retiringat the end of 25 or 26
WE need Forward
we need to be aggresive big forwards
who do we get ? who do we target ?
I dont think Guymer is a 2nd rower (Im not even sure he is a footballer)
Im starting to realy like Kautoga and with more football in him the better he will get
Williams i dont think is a starter
Re-sign Walker for 2 more years past his current deal
Replies
Kautoga is getting better but still a fair way off.
top targets should be white, Fifita, haas, halisima, pahulu just to name a few
This team needs a ball playing 13.
Walker is there now. We need to sign more, or develop ones. Hands might be able to play there, he has in the past.
Hopgood and Guymer need to be in the middle.
I think Guymer is playing there for now to prepare Samrani. Maybe he'll play one more game there then it's Samrani all along.
Guymer looks half the player That I watched coming through and who debuted last year. He dead set looks like Jake trbojec 2.0
I think we need Davud Fifita only because he bring other players with him i think and he be a cheap buy
What makes you think David Fifita would attract other players I'm not sure I understand the logic. If anything I look at the mentioned and he gives off a vibe of entitled and looks to be underachieving in respect to his talent.
9 times out of 10 when I watch Fifita play I feel he's always leaving alot on the table. While his athleticism is an attractive trait I'm not sure JR wants that character trait of under achievement in Parra's squad.
It's interesting the narrative around Fifita he's a victim of his contract.
He has an amazing ability to break the line and bust tackles but everyone's always wanting more.
The narrative is he's lazy but his stats say he's the best backrower in the game the last few years.
His tries and try assists supercede Olakau'atu, Katoa , kikau,Young even Yeo who's considered the best lock in the game Fifitas stats dwarf his.
Is he worth a million , no way but the bloke cops a lot of undeserved criticism.
He influences the scoreboard more so then any other backrower.
Hes doing all this in a team that's struggled for years, he's much maligned.
Do I think he has more to offer his side , absolutely..
The way he's forced to play for the Titans however chews up his juice and forces him into collisions with the heart of the defence rather then isolating defenders.
He gets in and does those hard runs from dummy half and it's effective, lazy forwards don't do that.
The result is he's injured more often then he should be.
Getting out of Qld would be the best thing for him moving forward, forcing him to reevaluate his footy and renewing his focus.
With signings it's the perception a teams on their way up that entices player signings, a player who's played rep footy helps.
I differ to most around Fifita, in the right footy team he is very advantageous.
It would be crazy to me if we haven't made overtures here.
To me if I look at 2019 David Fifita to the 2024 version I'm not seeing that progression to his skill set.
Hes always trying to run over people which okay is his strength but he's not added anything to move him to that next level.
I honestly don't know why coaches haven't used him in a hybrid type mode moving him in and out edge to middle.
His leg speed and size with a fast ruck and early ball coming through the middle would destroy teams but because he just sits on an edge he just stays same same for me and floats in and out of games.
The idea he's telling a premiership winning coach where he'd prefer to play to is a red flag as I'm pretty sure DEs has a plan for him.
His athleticism is exactly what Parra need but I'm investigating where his head is at before I invest.
He definitely isn't getting utilised to best of his ability.
Your right , The titans have forwards like RCG , Tino and Fotuaika how his halves aren't saying Dave the moment we get a fast play the ball I want you running off my hip , be ready come with me.
Fifita should be ready to run the ball after the first hit up the moment they get the first fast play the ball and his halves should be finding him a miss match it just doesn't happen.
I don't have a problem with players telling their coach where they like to play , you can even get the shits all you like as long as your prepared to play where asked and prepared to change the coaches mind with your football I'm ok with it.
Im not sure how much is true with these media stories or not, sounds like theres a bit more to it with Dave's " the truth will come out "comment .
Sometimes players and coaches just don't gel, obviously with Fifita almost going to the Roosters he and Des haven't had the best relationship since Hasler got there and it doesn't look like it's improving.
If a player like him is on the market, disgruntled and there's a possibility we could snare him at a reasonable rate we'd be remiss not to explore it.
Former Props and backrowers who are coaches tend to squeeze a bit more out of their pack then coaches who weren't .
I would look at the following:
Kai Pearce-Paul (edge)
Ethan Bullemor (edge)
Iszac Fa'a (middle)
Lazarus Vaalepu (middle)
Jamal Shibasaki (edge)
Mavrik Geyer (edge)
Davvy Moale (middle)
I would also keep an eye on the Roosters potentially looking to offload any of their young forwards.
Roosters best Prop is Naufahu Whyte. They will not offload him but we could offer him a bucket load to leave. They have Collins and Leniu on big money, also Va'a in lower grades they might not be able to match.
