Jnr Paulo to retire 2025?

There is a rumour getting around that Junior Paulo will retire at the end of the year!

We have heard, been sent it by about 50 different people and there has been all different reasons stated. Stress fractures in his feet is a popular one, other health concerns, body failing him to name some.

Look nothing is confirmed yet in regards to this. I was hoping there would be some kind of announcements in the weeks I have known about it but still nothing.

Make of it what you will but the noise is getting louder

  • Updated team list. Matto drops out of the reserves list. Boy oh boy Ryles does not want Matterson anywhere near the NRL team. This has real Greg Eastwood vibes now.

    • Unfortunately Mutts, I don't think Matterson is the type of player that would seek a release as his ego/self belief thinks he should be playing 1st grade....and that's what he is motivated to do.

IMO he will only move on if we chip in a huge amount of his contract and he signs elsewhere Matt Lodge style and actually earns more than his current contract.

He is on $650k next year, no other club wants to take that on. Pretty sure he will be happy to turn up for the next 18 months in his singlet and drop posts on Instagram with passive aggressive digs at Ryles.

      • Hope you're well Bert and Mutts. Matto for me can do what he likes and his value will drop I feel the longer he's in Reggie's

    • Matto had 2 poor moments in NSW Cup last week. It was actually a very good performance if you exclude what I am about to type.

      • He received a poor pass from dummy half from the young Ron Massey dummy half (only played due to injuries) and Matto went to catch the ball one handed and dropped it. I thought Matto's reaction to the pass was poor. He didnt say anything. But the way he looked at the player and his body language was crap. Players like Carty were nice and did the usual pat on the head/back for the young hooker.
      • Mataele, Keir and Matto made a tackle together however the opposition player managed to offload the ball. The person who received the ball just ran straight behind the ruck and got tackled. The issue I had was that Matto and Mataele did not make it back to the defensive line before the opposition player played the ball. Keir made it back into the defensive line easily. By no means was the play the ball was even rapid. When the bunnies player played the ball, Matto and Mataele were in line with it. Thats how offside they were. It gets worse though in my eyes. Mataele actually made the effort to go back onside and rejoin the defensive line whereas Matto went back onside but rather than rejoining the defensive line he decided to stay back behind the defensive line. As a result Mataele was isolated to defend against a forward with great footwork who stepped Mataele and as a result Mataele could not make the diving tackle. The opposition player made a small break. Keep in mind during this play, bunnies again were held before making an offload out the back which further gave time for Matto to join the defensive line. On the other hand Keir was actually one of the defenders that led the line speed despite having to run back into the defensive line. Then after the small break, Matto actually stayed at marker. Bunnies went right before cutting back infield and Matto missed a tackle and looked absolutely gasses. However from there Matto recovered and defended well for the rest of the set and game.

"Agree. Can not see him defending in the line at present and some of the passes I have seen him throw do not leave me with much confidence in swift and workable transition into the 6 role.

"Exactly. Let the kid figure out NRL first and become a seasoned first grader. Why complicate it further just to try and strengthen a position that is quite frankly the least of our worries. A fullback is more important than a Five-Eighth.
