Jnr Paulo to retire 2025?

There is a rumour getting around that Junior Paulo will retire at the end of the year!

We have heard, been sent it by about 50 different people and there has been all different reasons stated. Stress fractures in his feet is a popular one, other health concerns, body failing him to name some.

Look nothing is confirmed yet in regards to this. I was hoping there would be some kind of announcements in the weeks I have known about it but still nothing.

Make of it what you will but the noise is getting louder

  • We are in need of some forwrads

  • Now I take reports from them with grain of salt, they have been very rocks or diamonds with their rumours. But have hit before and this one makes sense.

He has a chronic toe issue from 2023, seems his body cannot do it anymore. Now I wonder if it will be announced or they will try medically retire him with something. They can't with the toe.

Positive is having close to an extra million to spend, issue is where to spend it with hardly any quality on the market unless we get smart with those who are on contract for 2026.

One name I would look at is Asofa-Solomona, he is on a decent deal at Melbourne but they are a bit here and there with him of late. Taking his big salary could work and change of scenery too.

Naufahu Whyte and Griffin Neame are some of the best middles too.

    • I think we have enough to tread water next year in the props, even if Paulo retires. The likes of Mataele, Guymer, Pryke, will have to live up. Maybe we keep Matterson too.

Then sign players for 2027. A few good forwards are off contract end of 2026, namely Haas.

    • I could be wrong, but I was under the impression Ryles was building a smaller, mobile and fast forward pack, as opposed to your huge monsters than can only play 20-30mins a game?

Not so sure Asofa would work in that model.

      • Plenty of teams still have athletic big boppers. That approach has no balance or impact. It is about having a balanced pack.

        • The impact of a side like that comes towards the end of games when fatigue sets in, but I do agree you need someone that can bust open a defensive line.

  • Would be great news if true, he's been ripping the club and fans off for years. Would allow us to get some good consistant forwards.

  • I think Fifita could do with a club change. Before you start calling him lazy, all the negativity of Gutho when he was signed with an ACL injury, Moses was an overated player that couldn't tackle. The Fox another highly criticised player when the club was after him. All be came crowd favourites & with Fifita in the team who has it all happening the players would lift playing along side him.

    • Fifita running off moses would be terrifying for opposition

    • Hell No that Dave Taylor/Tony Williams/Jamal Idris 2.0...he is lazy cant play long minutes defensively poor and good for one clutch play a season.
