Jnr Paulo to retire 2025?

There is a rumour getting around that Junior Paulo will retire at the end of the year!

We have heard, been sent it by about 50 different people and there has been all different reasons stated. Stress fractures in his feet is a popular one, other health concerns, body failing him to name some.

Look nothing is confirmed yet in regards to this. I was hoping there would be some kind of announcements in the weeks I have known about it but still nothing.

Make of it what you will but the noise is getting louder

      • Fifita reminds me of players like Hayne or Latrell or in cricket Glenn Maxwell. They are victims of their own brilliance and a solid game is never enough. People expect them to beat 10 blokes and score 3 miracle tries each week and it's just not realistic. People never notice them when they have a good solid game and contribute. Are they ever going to be your consistent steady hand players, no, but I love having these sort of players in my team as they are just different. They will probably win you 3-4 games are year almost on their own. Do you want 17 of them in your side, no but having one of these type players in your team really just gets you over the line sometimes

    • The above mentioned all were still effort players, Fifta is lazy. He will stand out wide and do nothing if ya let him. He won't go looking for work or putting in the extras.

      • I've always wondered why coaches just don't move him into the middle that forces him to do the work he can't hide.Even as a bench middle nd use him in 15-20 minute bursts.

  • Once Paulo is gone the amount of cap space available for 2026, Ryles will go home from a hard days work like this

    • I hope this is true, he's on almost 1 million a year, he's definitely out of he's prime now.

      If Paulo goes then add

      D Brown

      And then fuck off

      S Lane

      R Matterson

      B Cartwright

      that's about 3.3million just there.

then go hard on wrapping up some of our good Juniors coming thru, and go hard on getting Galvin and couple of decent forwards and we will be good

      • Ofahengaue and Greig too add an extra $800k or so. Ofa was on $500k.

I would look at Penrith, I love how fans have turned on them, Lindsay Smith is a plodder, Martin is not great, Sorensen is rubbish, Liam Henry is not good etc. These forwards won GF last year. But Talagi is great but, just have to train Parramatta out of him apparently. If that's the case why aren't the other forwards you claim are not awful performing under the Penrith way?

        Idiots.

        • I wonder if we will resign Greig or not?

I think he needs to go, he looks to unfit, does dumb things on the field, he got suspended last weekend in the dying minutes of the game for a high shot.

what other good forwards do we have coming thru?

        • I think I understand where your coming from LB?

I have no doubt that the depth players we are now developing are going to become very difficult to retain in the new era of Bears and PNG.  I think we have to be very aggresive in both recruitment and development because the quality is going to be very thin.

I have a feeling we are going to find clubs like Roosters are going in with overlaps. i.e. is DCE going to them and with their back up halves in Walker / Sandon/ Happtula? etc  Fogarty is going to Manly and that is showing up the importance of long kicks. How much depth is there around in the halves?

I think injuries will be the decisive factors in winning competitions, the one's being the least effected will be the candidates.

I'm throwing all these things into the wind, but I am starting to think Ryles is on the right track.

I think Coryn is also on the right track, we need to be developing players from other codes. How many fringe Rules players are out there with a kicking game....plenty of kids coming through that have played both codes. You are not going to pull superstars but the next level down with Rugby experience, how many Kiwi Union halves out there with kicking games. ?????

          • I think we can get quality with other players. For what it will cost to sign Haas we could get 2-3 good forwards that will help us more. We lose Haas at any point and your team is back to not being great relying on one player. I contend the only positions i would only offer over $1mil for is the spine positions, that is it.

Not saying i would say no to Haas, if we got him then great but just feel we could do with another 1-2 more forwards on top of him, but could we afford it?

I can see our juniors getting snapped up by Perth. PNG not so much, they will lean on more of their own players for a while as the PNG government want that. Not saying our players wont be poached but even then i think not a lot will go to PNG just not a great place to go. Perth is better but still a massive move. Juniors are more likely to head to Perth for the money and opportunity.

I am thankful the new team is not in Sydney nor Queensland as not as much would want to move over to Perth or PNG. I still contend PNG to be the worst NRL team idea i have ever seen.

        • Liam Martin would be a dream for the right edge.
