The missing link to many in regards to how Parramatta go to the next level is that one impact player. Paul Crawley mentioned on NRL 360, you put Tedesco into this team they win a title. Now i am not one to be suckered into one player makes you amazing, Turbo did for Manly last year, however i felt this year they looked better without him, same with Ponga Newcastle look a little better from time to time when he is not there. In saying that, there would be 1 or 2 games where them in the team would get their sides the wins.

To buy an X-factor, well it will take up alot of your cap of course, hence Parramatta using the well round approach to build an even squad, imagine a prime Jarryd Hayne however in this team right now? But when a team has an X-factor they 9/10 times keep them, so how do we get one? Well most of the time have to develop them or pick them up from a struggling club before they take off. But do we already have one?

Dylan Brown has shown glimpses of being that type of player, earlier in the year he was electric (no pun intended) and cut teams a part. However, consistently he has not shown it. Brown has the talent to open games right up but has been known to sort of zone in and out of games and his decision making on when to take the games on hands is still evading him. Have to remember, he is still 22, a lot more room for development with Dylan, he is only slowly starting to hit his prime years.

Hopefully BA or whoever is coaching him in 2023 (Sorry BE for mentioning someone else might be coach) might be able to get the most out of him, let's be fair and no hate for this comment but the last month or so Dyl has been quiet, not awful but there were numerous opportunities to be able to break a game open and put a team away and Dylan sort of couldn't get into a game to do that.

Dylan has Dally M winning skill, just decision making, timing and confidence needs some tuning before that happens. Can this staff get it out of him? Or is it on him?

But i think he can be our X-Factor, just need to see it consistenly.

  • Are you saying our x factor playing at 5/8 or in a different position or off the bench

    • I see what you did there Jason haha. For clarification playing at 5/8

    • Look at Canberra in round 12, that was a hard slog of a game then opened it up with that long range try. He has speed and movement to break through the line with ease.

If we can get an assistant to get it out of him he can be a Dally M winner for sure.

  • Nice blog, LB.

Agree Dylan definitely can be, he's shown what he's capable of at times. Personally feel opposition coaches & defences are now doing their due diligence as he's become such a threat, more than he's stagnating or anything. The skies the limit for Dyl.

Even Nathan Cleary, Munster etc aren't showing consistency this season, not an attack on them, it's obviously just very hard to rip games open week in, week out at this level.

  • Nice Post LB.  I agree that he has the potential to be our long term X Factor player.  However he also needs to be more consistent.

By the way I am so glad Joseph Manu has been going gang busters at 6 for the Roosters.  It may mean they keep their hands of DB after they retire Keary.  Well I hope lol

  • Dylan Brown needs to develop his kicking and passing to be that X Factor as a 5/8th. His game has come on in leaps and bounds this year. Looks to me like BA has told him to run more which is great. I wish Mahoney would do the same.

  • Dylan has been less than dynamic the last few weeks. Dylan seems to have the ability to tear sides apart, he seems to have that. The thing to watch is this, as teams are more aware of his threat and they are coached to counter him, can he do it anyway? The really great X factor players, teams know what they can do and defend to that threat, yet the X factor player does it anyway. Like Munster, people know his game, yet not every game, but in big games, he just rips sides apart.

  • Both Dylan and Mitch are X factor players.

Unfortunately they just don't show it enough.

  • I've been saying this since he made his debut against panthers couple years ago. This guy has talent, and it's good to see it coming to the front now. He just needs more consistency and he'll be rivalling the top 1 or 2 5/8s out there.

Mind you this season he has gone to another level, but the consistency is still not there and it will come in time.

  • Papa is an X.  BA gotta use him better than the predictable edge run.

Dylbags could be X if he was consistent, same goes Moses

Jnr can break a game too with step and offload

so I reckon we have a few...who's smart enough in the Eels coaching crew to conjure up plays to have these abovementioned to execute their full array of skills?

"There is supposed to be a level of balance here, but we seem to get most of the top 8 trams twice every year. The aim is to win as many games as we can, but the draws make this hard to achieve. "

"Agreed. We have basically just forfeited both Melbourne games. Parra v Melbourne used to be a big game, but fans need to believe we can beat them at their best to spend their hard earned cash. If we are in a position to realistically win every home…"

"Exactly. If we were the best team in the comp draw is irrelevant. There is no hit job on us, it is simply we are a big draw card on ratings and crowds so we play the other big draw teams."
