Yeah but the Cowboy metres, while Taumololo and Mikaele gained metres, it was all their slippery players like Purdue, Dearden and Drinkwater that made the metres for them by evading tackles etc...
But I agree about the other forwards dominating us in those other games, which creates space behind the ruck for the fast 9s and 1s to run into.
Coryn, we scrapped against the Cows and hung in there; we also made less errors from memory and this is key; all the wins we had came from less errors. Hang in there; less errors....
Thats actually smart with the injuries we have hanging in sometimes will steal you a game or 3 and that's exactly what it did against the Cows.
Melbourne this week if someone isn't on Harry Grant this week there needs to be an inquiry but you can bet Melbourne are coming right down the hey diddle diddle.
We played above our weight IMO - and we hung in there; Moses also kicked for more yards than they did - this also created fatigue combined with the less errors; just look at our spine compared to them; our guys did v well and Volk and Pap both had good games for me; there is also something in it that when we have Russell and Samrani - two big centres, we do better; just my view.
I go back to some games like Wests / Manly and Warriors - all winnable games yet we did not get there; we get one of them or so and things look different and with the injuries we have.
JR is using the younger ones better for me - he seems to have invested in them and in time it can pay off if we have the right balance with experience.
I personally feel Moses' time in a year or so will dictate how things go as he seems to be getting banged up a lot more....
We've won every game we completed at over 80% this year. And while the Cowboys set completions were only 71% against us, we have actually completed far worse twice this year (63% and 64%) and both times we conceded 50.
What I don't get is no one but no one is criticising JR for a style of play that the last coach was ostracised for.Not only is he getting a pass here we have the worst defense in the comp leaking at an nrl record type rate,we also don't have the players to play that way but we are still a well coached side I've red on here.
Now think about that for minute I did have to have a quite chuckle to myself about that one.
Yes Daz and I will put in another way Coryn.....easier enough to do btw
Your talking about poor defence in general with BA, no cover (except if DB was doing it) no scramble. Regularly overlapped, wingers could not mark up etc.....
Now the criticism with JRL comes from the middle and the edge......we do have cover defence and we do scramble well. Goal line defence went backward and then Ryles lifts it back into priorities. Our best defensive forward was Hopgood and up untill his injury Riley Smith was the line speed. Our edge forwards have limited lateral tackling ability, that said we only need a couple of misses off the edge and then the runaways start.
JR had this right when he could have his main team on the field, Russell who was our best back defender, lost his mojo since his comeback from HIA's and suspension. Smith is not the same at present (injury) being carried, up unto the last two games we have been carrying Moses and JAC with injury.
The defence system is there with Rykes, it was rarely there with BA against teams that outskirted and outsmarted us, Souths used to do it all the time.
BA was effective against less flamboyant sides like Penrith who didn't like playing us and although Storm always got the better of us in the finals, we were very effective against them in the rounds, that has changed with JR and its a mystery why, I would have thought he would have every game plan ever used against us.
No sorry Coryn its just not simple, in fact its infuriating I suspect the one's that really infuriated are Ryles himself and his handpicked coaching colleges......my answer is simple, the make up in the cattle that we are putting on the field is not mature enough, post injuries to gell as a proper defensive team....they maybe still suffering from DB's absence, I always marvelled in those days how many tries would have been scored without Dyllans presence.

They had a higher average set distance, however with better completion, Eels actually topped them in total run meters

💯 but we've tucked the ball away while doing so.

Coryn, you claim BA was "ostracized" for the "same style of play" that JR is coaching but copping no flak about.
Yet the premise there is that BA and JR are in fact coaching the same "style of play". You have not established that assumption.
Maybe you have a point, maybe you don't. But you have to establish not assume key premises.
In what way are the styles the same? What is the evidence for the styles being the same?

5 hit ups and kick.
You can see that can't you.
Have a look at the match replays we've adopted this for the last month of football.
I bet you we'll see alot of that this week also.
Our edge defense is a mess there's not much if any real physical dominance in the middle of the park.
Looks pretty familiar to what we were doing 23-24 with injuries aswell.
