Ryles Winning with a $6 Million Roster

Jason Ryles is doing a phenomenal job at the helm of the Eels — and when you break it down, he’s doing it with a roster that’s worth just $6 million out of an $11.5 million salary cap.

That’s nearly half the value of many of our opponents.

Here’s a rough breakdown of the current squad he's working with

  • Iongi – $450k

  • Addo-Carr – $450k

  • Penasini – $550k

  • Russell – $280k

  • Lomax – $600k

  • Papalii – $180k

  • (Footy Dean) – $200k

  • Junior Paulo – $850k

  • Ryley  – $170k

  •  Williams – $460k

  • Kautoga – $200k

  • Tuilagi – $375k

  • Hopgood – $400k

  • Walker – $400k

  • Doorey – $300k

  • Lussick – $300k

  • Guymer – $300k

That’s approximately $6 million – and that might even be generous in a few cases.

Yet despite being undermanned on paper, Ryles' Eels have not only held their own, they've beaten the Dragons, Titans, Tigers, Manly, and Newcastle. They’ve also gone down narrowly to quality sides like the Sharks, Dolphins, Bulldogs, and Panthers — all in the last 10 rounds as the team adapts to Ryles' systems.

It’s clear: the coaching staff Ryles has assembled is doing a good job. With a full-strength roster and the cap space to build the squad he truly wants, look out. Parramatta is in seriously good hands.

Also, if we can get jag a win against the Dragons this Saturday then another 2 points with the bye up next,   we'll have a host of players coming back from injury and suspension including

Moses, Sam Tuivaiti,  Moretti, Bailey Simonsson, Ritchie penasini, Ryley Smith most of them due back after the bye.

A run for the 8 is not out of the question

          • Another BA cheerleader..ask yourself why Perth went ahead with big with limited NRL Club head coaching experience ??? Enough said Tim Tam you simpleton..do us a big favour and join your buddies at the TCT...lol enjoy son...

            • They wanted a figurehead and good for them go and ask how Meninga went setting up GC.They wanted a name they got one and prepare to meet the whirlwind as signing him I wouldn't be confident.

        • That's absolute garbage!

BA is a good coach who took us from the gutter to a Grand Final. The reality was he had become stale at Parramatta and it was time for a change - particularly considering the flaws in our game were not being addressed or improved.

The change in direction with Ryles has thus far been very positive and considering media superhero Ciraldo took 2.5 years (along with several high profile signings) to achieve, Ryles is ahead of schedule.

          Try to have some perspective!

          • 13640910862?profile=RESIZE_584xThat's your opinion..and opinions dont mean shit. Have a each way bet that's not my style..BA had 1 plan or system and when it failed it all collapsed into a heap..how many floggings did we watch under BA watch?? Haha this also happened in finals FFS! Our attack was average under BA especially in the opposition redzone. Disagree with any of that?? I'll book a visit to opsm for you BB

            • BA had only one look, one look......

Why can't hardly anyone see it, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

      • Well Bobalicious , it was actually statistically Barrett that was playing for the spoon last season. He did coach about 70% of the games. But yes I agree , we certainly do have far less talent on the ground this season from a spending perspective.  Funnilly when I used to harp on about these same players not delivering their salaries the Eggsperts here would call me crazy.

And here we are with a journeyman reject showing us how Dylan Brown the " defensive half " should be playing and a kid with a handfull of games under his belt forcing the muppets on FOX to eat their words about Gutherson being our biggest loss since the 2001 GF.

    • We were in this position in the early years of BA's tenure and he was being applauded.

      • Bazza, read Mick's post about our defence under ba, it was always hit and miss. Wingers would fly in for absolutely no reason. I don't see that happening under Ryles.  Our attack looks more promising also.

I don't know about you but I've never had confidence in our defence under Arthur at no time throughout his tenure.  Sure we had some blow out games earlier under Ryles but it took time for the players to learn through new systems.   Its its still very early doors also

        • Tell you what Chief, if we are in the same position this time next year, Ryles will be copping it from me.

          • Regardless of this time next year we do not have to be negative for the sake of it.

Wiz completely exaggerates his perspective, nothing unusual about that.

Chiefy can't help himself, if BA's blood is in the water, he goes into a frenzy.

            Mickey has said it twice.

Analyst is not interested unless their is a scoop in it.

Am I the only Unicorn left? no wonder they are so rare LOL
