      • Agree NOS and I really liked what Mitch said about a concerted effort defensively on tackles 1/2/3 to limit go forward.

Ive been banging on about that for a while, the team is  starting to show some nous .

As you say we're playing a unique brand of football which excites me.

We need to be a club that drives innovation, that's where we'll find success.

Ryles and his team have impressed me a lot , the playing group are on board and singing his praises.

You get Moses and Lomax in origin camp talking up Ryles , all of a sudden you get a buzz about the club.

Players are looking to sign and it's easier to retain our promising youngsters.

I like what I see, success is closer then many think.

        • Absolutely Bup, that was interesting from Mitch. It's great to get some genuine insights this season from Mitch, Junior & JR in pressers.

Agree, the foundations are building and like you, get the feeling it might click sooner rather than later - possibly towards end of year, feel we might go on a bit of a run?

The errors are frustrating, but they are already improving outside of two players, and where errors are occurring is also improving - in oppositions half, as opposed to ours.

Iongi is clearly working hard behind the scenes as the last two weeks he has looked far more comfortable under kick pressure, a FB's errors are far more costly, so its very good to see his confidence grow.

But errors are easy fixes in the scheme of things? Attitudes, defence, 1%ers, not so much?

There have been monumental improvements in defence - structure, communication, patience, energy, contact, work ethic, fight & all the 1%ers. Everything.

That is exactly what you & I, and plenty of others, were hopeful would be the first point of call for Ryles & while its not perfect, its clear as day how far its come & continues to come.

People say Newcastle are shit, fair, but in seasons past we found ways to let shit teams through us or around us, we gave them ways to work themselves into the game.

Last night the Eels built genuine scoreboard pressure, and while Knights aren’t great, they still have attack in them & we closed that down.

Obviously, a lot there to improve on, but if JR & Co. can achieve these improvements in defence & attack with a side this far under the cap, they're very positive signs for whats ahead with a stronger roster?

We tread carefully of course, but Im with you Bup, I think it will click sooner than we though.

        • Thankyou friggin baby Jebus

this is music to my ears 💙💛

      • Your last sentence NoS about Walker. I have to agree. Just watching him choose when to run, when to pass short and when to go out the back. He never throws pressure passes short or out the back. He makes the right choices all the time.

        • Firstly, im impressed you got to the last sentence of my dribbling on, EA.

          But yep, 100%.

There were a few moments last night that really stood out for me - the 1 on 1 steal was great, but also taking that tackle on the 5th & ensuring we challenged because he'd seen the Knights winger get a (minor) touch.

Just the little things he does, and like you say, he always seems to make the right call. Just didn't realise how important he would be.

      • Really really like Dylan Walker.... it's a different team in attack when he is on the field. How long have we signed him for ?

    • And yet despite all that Coryn, we were dudded against Cronulla and blew many chances to beat the dolphins. We should be on a 4 game winning streak and on 12 points tied in 5th place on the ladder, go figure. There's no way this team is a spoon team if we can keep our key players on the park.

  • BAs pressers had a common theme which were never addressed properly. Is  Ryles starting to show a presser theme ? and if so? how can he address it?

    • Maybe Ryles shouldn't start a sentence or answer with uuuuummmmmmm and aaaahhhhhhhh

      • I don't mind the um's and R's. That to me makes me think he's actually thinking about the question being asked, rather than the same answers dished out in years gone by. I'm hoping Ryles can build a great relationship with the press and get some favourable treatment like certain other clubs do

"Munster also stayed for less. I seem to remember saying that a strong indicator of good culture is a place where players are willing to stay for less (financially speaking)."
