An average of seven across the side reflects a strong team performance that the Eel's produced against the Warriors last week. I found cause to give eights to Hayne, Horo, Mannah and Moimoi, with Hindmarsh, Burt and Allgood not far away.
1. Jarryd Hayne 8 (8)
I couldn’t have been more impressed with Jarryd. He produced exactly what I was hoping for - fewer touches, but still managed to lob up for a try and two assists. More so, it was a mature display. His kicking game was fabulous and he seemed switched on for the entire match. Hayne is in for a very big season.
2. Luke Burt 7 (7)
The consumate finisher, Burt constantly put himself in a position to take advantage of the bounce of the ball and did ok with his dummy half running as well.
3. Chris Walker 6 (6)
Not a high degree of involvement from Walker in either attack or defence, with the Kiwi’s targetting out other flank but he didn’t too much wrong either
4. Ryan Morgan 6 (6)
Not a bad debut at all. Had good involvement and despite being targeted by the Kiwis, he tackled well when in position to do so.
5. Etu Uaisele 6 (6)
Was always going to be the target of New Zealand’s attack and his opening tackle of Manu Vatuvai was incredibly brave, if somewhat clumsy. His running out of dummy half was good, though.
6. Daniel Mortimer 7 (7)
Run Daniel run. What a difference it was seeing Mortimer hit the ball on the run and taking the ball to the defence before passing. His kick for Hayne’s try was excellent and he linked well with Hayne for the second Burt try.
7. Jeff Robson 7 (7)
Got Parra off with the ideal start with a smart little run, taking advantage of a piece of sloppy Warriors defence. Did everything else that was expected of him, although I’m still hoping for his short kicking game to lift a notch.
8. Tim Mannah 8 (8)
How inspiration is it to see a prop hit up a ball twice in the same set of six. Mannah’s numbers say it all - 154 metres from 20 hitups, plus 21 tackles. Proved he is just as effective starting the match as he is off the bench.
9. Casey McGuire 7 (7)
Clever dummy half work added a new dimension to the Parramatta attack. A couple of errors in the mix but a very impressive start to his latest stint at Parramatta.
10. Mitchell Allgood 7 (7)
You probably couldn’t have hoped for a better debut from a young front-rower. Attacked the line with gusto and regularly got over the advantage line for more than an average of 8 metres per run. And no mistakes, either, showing he wasn’t overawed by the ocassion.
11. Nathan Hindmarsh 7 (7)
A nicely balanced effort, between defence and attack. Did plenty of tackling but left enough gas in the tank to make 17 hitups. Couple of uncharacteristic mistakes cost him an eight in my books, but a top captain’s knock regardless.
12. Taniela Lasalo 6 (6)
Hit the ball hard, without overly troubling the defence but his strong surge in the early minutes had the defence scrambling and helped open up space for Jeff Robson’s opening try.
13. Justin Horo 8 (8)
Horo is going to a star this season. He has a complete game. Strong, hard-running forward, who has skills and works equally as hard off-the-ball. Always round abouts the pill and leading the chase to kicks.
14. Matt Keating 6 (6)
Looked sharp at dummy half and was able to relieve McGuire without the side skipping a beat.
15. Shane Shackleton 7 (7)
I thought it was a strong effort from Shack, considering it was his first game for a year. Showed off his good footwork on a couple of occasions and did plenty of work for 15 hitups.
16. Fuifui Moimoi 8 (8)
Only played a bit more than half an hour, but he made an immediate difference when he came on. Made over 10 metres per hitup, which is something he probably does with more regularity than any other prop forward in the competition. Considering his lack of pre-season football it was a fantastic performance.
17. Ben Smith 5 (5)
Only made a few hit-ups on the time he got on the field and was over-shadowed a bit by other members of the pack.
