By Steve JanceticAugust 07, 2009 Parramatta's shopping spree has netted its first casualty, with likeable forward Joe Galuvao forced out of the NRL club due to the salary cap.On the same day the Eels confirmed the signing of Timana Tahu for the next three seasons, Galuvao admitted he was likely to take up a deal to move to Manly in 2010 after the club had indicated there was no money left in the kitty next season.Parramatta have been one of the biggest spenders ahead of the 2010 campaign, with representative forwards Shane Shackleton and Justin Poore along with dual international Tahu all headed to the western Sydney club next season. The 31-year-old Galuvao said he was keen to stay on at the Eels, having resurrected a career which appeared over when he was forced to play in the Queensland Cup while on contract with South Sydney. But he is now resigned to finding himself a new home."I'm still dealing with Manly," Galuvao said on Friday."My preference was to stay here but things happen and change."You've got to deal with those things. But the time I've had here has been awesome and I've just enjoyed the opportunities."Asked if he was forced out by a lack of room under the cap, Galuvao said:"That's pretty much the indication here, it's not that they didn't want me - as with most clubs these days the salary cap comes into consideration."Timana's coming here and that's great for the club, he's a great player and if it's at my expense then so be it.”In explaining his decision to return to Parramatta, who he played for from 2005-2007, Tahu said the move made sense. He was granted a release from his Australian Rugby Union contract on Wednesday, and completed his move to Parramatta on Friday after being given a clearance by club rugby side West Harbour."I stayed close to a lot of the boys here during my time in union and I'd text or call them from time to time, so coming back just made sense to me and my family," Tahu said."Knowing so many people here, including having a friend in Paul Osborne as CEO, it wasn't like I was coming to a new club at all, so there was no reason for me to look anywhere else really."

  • OMG if only we got rid of Lowrie, then Joe could stay.
  • Big Joe has shown he has a lot of class. I would love to keep him, but in all honesty if joining Manly means a better deal for him and his family, then that's what he should do. I would hate that he stayed for peanuts when he could have gotten a better deal somewhere else. He certainly deserves it. G ood luck for the future for you and the family, Joe. You are a great ambassador for rugby league. If only the sport had more of you and less of the idiots....
  • Totally agree Parra Mafia..... let's hope Parra... release some dead carrier over wood & still make him a reasonable offer.... "letting him go " especially to manly will not go down to well with a lot of people.......
    • He signed with Manly mate.
  • Daniel Anderson has wraps on Lowrie, on Foxsports the other night, he commended Lowrie, so he wouldnt let him go.
    • I would keep BIG joe over Lowrie any day
  • Fucking shithouse. Lowrie doesn't deserve to be in the blue and gold ahead of a player such as Galuvao, who gives his heart every week and nevr gives up.
  • Well looks like its pretty confirmed that Joe's gone

EXACTLY three years after being told to retire to a ministry, Joe Galuvao has continued his remarkable resurrection by inking a two-year deal with premiers Manly.
Having wound back the clock to produce the form that made him a 2003 premiership hero at Penrith, Galuvao has spent the past three months agonising over whether to leave current club Parramatta.

The Sea Eagles began their overtures in May, but the veteran has been holding out for a counter-offer from the Eels as the entire team rediscovered its mojo to become a finals force in recent weeks.

Parramatta, however, were unable to make a satisfactory bid after filling their 2010 cap with a host of top-line recruits.

  • I am not too sure what all the Lowrie bashing is all about. I think he is really starting to show what he is capable of under Ando.
  • I can't believe that Parra let Joe go and keep junk like Lowry. Also Robson should be released, if we have to rate the NRL half backs he would not be any higher than 20

I totally agree with your comments regarding the importance and benefits regarding local juniors at discounted rates, however,  this is only a factor with their 1st contract if they show promise.  Once a player starts showing they have regular…"

"We definitely need Lomax more than we need Grieg. Plus I back BA to develop gun forwards if we need to. We already have amazing forwards coming through our Matt, SG and Flegg team."
