Our second rowers

I had to talk about this.

Our second rowers are complete and utter uselless

Kautoga:Is going backwards gives away to many penatlys terrible defence to many errors.

Tuilagi:same as kautoga

and matterson, lane and Cartwright are not any better

All the experiments our coach has tried with our second rowers has never worked cause there all terrible.

you look at every teams second rowers and there 100 times better then our terrible second rowers.

If im ryless im going straight on the market for second rowers.

    • Heard reports Carty was toying with them in reserve grade. I mean Brown should be on the outer but he is continually picked.

      • They have to DB is the conduit for the edge staying connected. You can leave DB on anyone 1 on 1 that's the key the outside defenders can just continue to drift as a group.

This is going to be the challenge for our new 6 how much defensively are we going to suffer because of DB leaving not many are talking about this it's all about attack.

        • Brown compensates for poor edge defences. We need better edge forwards next year for sure with him gone.

  • We need a hard hitting player in the Felise Kaufusi

  • I think Fifita would be a good buy at the right price. He has never had a decent half to work with. At his best, there are none better, but there in lies the problem, can he be that player again.

  • Hopefully our answer is in cup in Will Latu

  • It's the glaring weakness and importantly having strong edge runners is critical to the attacking shape we now play. Having 2 legitimate edge threats would transform this side instantly. We need to go to market, we don't have what we need in-house.
Samrani could be an interesting project. No point trying to buy KPP, as Samrani is very similar. In terms of skill and experience Matterson and Cartwright should be our edges in NRL but obviously there are other issues at play. It's not a great position for our club to be in, deliberately putting much needed and highly paid players in reserve grade. But here we are.

  • We have a few coming through latu, popo and Samrani to name a few. LOKI  is another I would be looking at if you want to recruit outside.

  • Options:

Kelma Tuilagi - bad defender. Liability.

Bryce Cartwright - good for a mistake or two. Bad defender. Cant deny his x-factor in attack. But thats not enough sometimes, kind of like Maxwell in the cricket, how many test matches does he get picked in?

Charlie Guymer - seems more like a middle to me. Someone that would be competing for Moretti's spot on the bench. But Moretti is better.

Kitione Kautoga - I think his problem is his strength. I think we have seen glimpses of why he is getting picked. He can run a line and be in position to take the hit for his half. But to me there is just something he lacks. I think it might be strength. Seems like an odd thing to say about an nrl player, but if you watch him he never/rarely pushes blokes off him and often gets dominated in the wrestle.

Matt Doorey - the club keeps signing him over the years but not 100% sure why. Bit of a gap filler. Can run a line and tackle but never does anything special. Its nrl, something special is a prerequisite.

Ryan Matterson - has been a middle for 2-3 years. He is good in the middle. But Walker is playing the role he would play coming off the bench. No good on the edge and hasnt been nrl standard out wider for several years.

Shaun Lane - big body in the line, capable of competing for short kick offs, proven capable of playing at elite level next to brown on the left. But that was several years ago now. The game seems too quick for him now. He is sadly probably done. I say sadly because I dont forget that purple patch of form in the mid to late 2022 season when he was just about our best player for 2-3 games in a row. Having time off from the game is probably him looking at life after footy.

Jordan Samrani - his selection on the bench to play minutes in the back row is evidence the coach knows all of the above re the other options. Ryles is clutching at straws and is throwing caution to the wind. If it works out, great. If not, we havent lost anything.

  • Just watch the Cup Highlights. EA is onto something, Latu looks a beast that is still super raw. Plus is a team player, he missed a tackle and can see him beating himself up but only missed 1 tackle all game.
