Queensland prop Joe Ofahengaue to switch to the Super League on an immediate deal.

It is understood that Ofahengaue has played his last NRL game for the Eels and will leave the club to take up a long-term contract at Leigh.

Eels are set to re-sign a host of players, including centre Will Penisini, forwards Sam Tuivaiti and Toni Mataele, and halfback Ronald Volkman.

      • Need to free up top 30 spots as well to upgrade Volkman for this year. Plus if we want Galvin now we need a spot. It is possible that we will not be able to release Brown this year or until later in the season as Knights cannot afford it.

Are top 30 is already a 29 so that last spot would be for Galvin. Without Joe Oleaving it would have not been possible to upgrade Volkman and gets Galvin this year.

    • Probably chasing the collision with BA LOL

  • Joe O was brought for his leadership and mentoring younger blokes. Not sure how effective it was but none the less enjoy super league

    • He was not bad in 2024, but just seemed out of form in 2025. He had a great game in his 200th, but other than that was only playing a bit part and in Darwin his defence was atrocious. He serviced us well but he was not in the future plans, if it means guys like Tuivaiti and Mataele get more game time and are younger than that works for us. Even though they are younger and less experienced, they at the moment could give us the same or more than what Ofahengaue can give us.

Mataele more likely is signed til 2027, but i hope they extend Tuivaiti further til like 2028 or 2029. Plus i heard the other day from Brent Read Penisini took the option but an extension past 2026 is done a while back. I have no issues Volkman staying, if we get Galvin it would be nice having Hawkins as a back-up 7 and Volkman a back-up 6 for both Moses and Galvin.

  • I was never a fan of this signing if I'm honest and all it means for me is we open the door for guys like Moretti & Tuivaiti to get there opportunities. If I'm honest I'd like to see Parra bring back Oregan Kaufusi or Trey Mooney into the mix both once Jnr decides to hang it up as we then add leg speed power and mobility in our middle 1/3.

    • Would love to see Trey Mooney back in the blue and gold. He is a talent

      • Said the same thing.

      • There pretty deep with fowards down there Mooney can't currently crack there 17 consistently I'd seriously be knocking on the door seeing if there's a chance.

Ive always liked Oregan I think he's starting to be that steady guy you need upfront doing his job every week.

        • Kaufuse and Mooney only signed extensions last year from memory.

I haven't listened to that SC playbook podcast (yet) but have listened to Adam Druissi talk over the years. He's got a good head on his shoulders. A smooth operator.
