Parramatta Eels believed they were on the verge of signing teenage star Lachlan Galvin after positive talks with his agent during their win over Manly. The club offered a lucrative deal and a clear development path alongside Mitchell Moses. However, less than 48 hours later, Galvin chose the Bulldogs, reportedly influenced by a close relationship with Bulldogs assistant Luke Vella and a long-term plan quietly executed by Bulldogs head of football Phil Gould.

Despite Parramatta’s higher offer (over $800,000 per season vs. Bulldogs' $750,000 in year three), Galvin was swayed by Gould's subtle recruitment approach and admiration for Vella. The Eels, disappointed again after losing Blaze Talagi previously, must now look at other options such as Melbourne’s Jonah Pezet or Roosters' Sandon Smith to partner with Moses.

Galvin is expected to begin training with the Bulldogs soon and may debut against Parramatta on the King’s Birthday holiday.

      • Those battles are rather fortunate at the moment Bluey. Losing Blaize Talagi was a bonus, Dyllan is not a shadow of the player he was and who's to say Galvin would be as good as the money suggests. Ricky Stewart cannot be that impressed with the young half we lost to them. We just resigned Taiviti, JAC and a few others.

Where doing OK with what we have.

Personally I think Sandon Smith would be a very good comparative buy. Apparently he may go to the Cowboys and the list goes on. i think that MON is still lucky to be here but if Ryles has any doubts that is his problem.

We are not in any position to make the judgements that are being called. The reality is Parra are beggers not choosers and untill we stamp some authority around the traps, nothing will change.

        • Isn't Smith a hooker and what's to play that role? I might've misunderstood an article I read somewhere. If he wants to play hooker, he'd probably look at the cowboys as a better chance to get a start in his preferred position.

          • Our Hooker is Ryley Smith, the current Roosters 5/8 is Sandon Smith who is just as good as a half as he is 5/8.

His interest at Cowboys would not be hooker and Ryley Smith is going no where!

  • Quite simple what Pinocchio Gould did which is what he obviously always does is tell blatant lies! Can't trust a liar

  • Not being smart or anything but I'd love to hear from Super if he has any info when and how Parra stuffed this signing. From all accounts it was basically a done deal, no one can tell me Galvins former school boy coach had that much sway in him changing his mind, it's not like Vella just appeared at the Dogs he's been there for a while.

    • All the unofficial advice and no boundary breaking was the perfect scenario for Vella.... but why not, he was his long time coach, he has his sayings tattooed on his body.

How would Parra stuff this up analyst. Its the kid, his family and friends and anyone that can get in his ear that are telling him.

You want to blame the messenger (Super) who is only resending the thoughts of someone comfortable that we had him.

Guess what we didn't get him, go to Bunnings and build the bridge.

This like all those stupid scoops and shit you guys go on with. its not a fcuking game it's a profession. Two in a race one wins and second one comes last. There is only one winner.

Why do you guys take this so personally for Christ's sake. Sounds like we have a lot of long time losers on here, collect your ribbons, tell Mum & Dad you ran second, buy some cement, take a teaspoon before you go to bed and harden the fcuk up.

PS Don't lose sight of Galvin being offered 1.2m  x 5 and him knocking it back. A cynic could argue this was a long term setup. Even if it was how would Parra know?

      • Well believe it's overlooked that the kid did ask for a release in 2024 and 100% it was not to come to Parra then... his path was a dead end  with us back then!

It was always dogs I believe and all set up ages ago. We were just pawns in the game to help it look legit for Gus' benefit. Of course we believed it was legit and should have tried to make an effort. Gus and dogs fans would be loving the shit going on here as tho it's a fail by us ha

he is very close to Luke Vella and isn't losing anything financially with laundy's deals up for grabs

        • I think your 1st paragraph sums it up perfectly Macy. When LG asked for a release in '24, it coincided with ( not sure if it was the recruitment or an upgrade for Vella to an assistant coaching role ), and like you said, we had Brown signed until '31. Even to this day, Gould claims he has never spoken to Galvin, he claims he had no involvement with the negotiations, it was Ciraldo and his assistants, I find that hard to believe.

        • Well when he asked for a release last year it was to go to Penrith

      • There's a million ways to stuff up contract negotiations Pops. I read this morning how Nathan Hindmarsh was discussing his boy Buster signing with the Panthers. He stated that the Eels didn't even have the curtesy to meet them personally to discuss their offer, they sent an email. Penrith and ironically the bulldogs on the other hand organised a meeting in person and laid out their plans for Buster and how he would fit into the club and the direction they saw him travelling, what they could provide in development terms etc etc. Nathan and his son chose Penrith.

That is just one way to fuck up recruitment, I also know that Cayless boy has gone to the Roosters I think it was, and not the Eels, similar reason was given.

Further how many instances of The Eels want such and such player and we lose out, even in 50/50 races we lose a lot more then we win. Where there is smoke there is fire, that old saying seems spot on. There is something wrong in how we recruit and how we do our contract negotiations. I'll ask what could we lose by replacing Mark O'Neil, it's rare he signs a top line player from another club unless we are the only option.Ie Addo Carr, Offahenguae, Matterson, Pensini etc. Mark O'Neill is not getting it done, simple as that.
