Gus getting destroyed by media and fans.

Hard to feel sorry for the bloke when he goes on national tv a few weeks ago denies any interest in a player then signs him a few short weeks later. Media and fans are absolutely crushing his credibility and it's just a bad look for the game when a player takes 500k less to join the club that Gus is the head of. Pressure will firmly be on the bulldogs this season as anything less then a title will lead to a backlash

    • Unless they breach a law they won't give a hoot.

Has anyone anywhere even remotely suggested that a law has been broken? If so...which one?

      • It's called integrity Captain If you encourage lack of integrity it reflects on your character as well You'd never be my captain Just a lying blowhard

        • Well said

        • I understand the sentiment rex and from an ethical standpoint I agree with you - in my personal and professional career I value integrity massively.

It's also why I'm not a GM of Football or a Players Agent. Because I'd be bad at both.

The reality is if we stack our side with players who all play well within the rules and don't push the boundaries, don't try to sneak an advantage...then we will lose every single game.

If we stack our club with people who don't try to bend the rules and gain an advantage, we will never win a premiership. The Storm built their success on the back of cheating and they're still flying high. The Sharks were full of peptides the year before and after their premiership...gee I wonder whether drugs helped them win. The Panthers used Gus and James Freaking Packer to pour unequal amounts of money into the Panthers to set them up with the best facilities and they built a titan nursery that got them sustained success. The Rabbitohs only started winning when they had Russell Crowe tip in a fortune to basically buy them a premiership. The Bulldogs hired Gus, got a sponsor with a metric ton of money and bought a bunch of players from the champion Penrith side and now are flying high.

          You sensing a trend?

We can never win a premiership again and be cleanskins...or we can play with the rest of the winners, get a bit dirty, and maybe win a premiership. If we're looking for perfect rule abiding people, we should change the sport we follow.

And again, I agree with you personally about the price I put on my own integrity. But if we want the Eels to win, the Club has to learn to play the game that every other club is playing.

  • Our front office couldn't organise a bbq.

    • At least they'd try to do it legally

Meanwhile in Melbourne business as usual they'll load up with another worker and continue to build.

    • This is how it's done. Winners don't get obsessed with what their competition are doing. They just get on with the long game of winning.

  • I was surprised how many thought Galvin would become an Eel.

He's coached by one of the best 5/8s ever has a 4 time premiership winner as a partner yet he wanted to leave  to 'develop' his game?

I always thought LG would go to a team where he can be the chief playmates. Get over it and be glad we missed out on him and his ego

  • This is a serious issue—especially given the extent of betting involvement in the game. If the NRL wants to maintain any credibility or uphold proper governance, they must hold Phil Gould accountable and require him to relinquish one of his roles.

The concern isn’t just about the alleged grooming and being wax lyrical . As someone reminded me, Gould made comments on 100% Footy—either a few weeks ago or when this story first broke—suggesting the situation was untenable and that the Galvin  should be let go. That’s the General Manager of a rival club using his media platform to exert pressure on the Tigers for his own club’s gain.

Channel Nine also has questions to answer. As a media organisation, they should be deeply concerned that one of their highest-profile figures is openly misleading the public.
