Galvin was no certainty to succeed

I know most of us are burning about missing out on Galvin.

However (I know I'm just trying to cope with the loss) I was thinking about some of the young can't miss half prospects who fizzled out and it reminded me that there was no guarantee that he was going to work for us.

some of the halves that came to mind that were highly touted and didn't live up to the hype

1. Ash Taylor

2. Brodie Croft

3. Tim Smith

4. Kieren Foran (once he came to us)

5. Chris Sandow

6. Kane Elgy

7. Lachlan Ilias

8. Daniel Mortimer

I'm sure there are more but I'm trying to look at the bright side and hope to death the kid doesn't become the next Joey Johns

  • Easy to say that now that his brushed us

  • The more I think about it I think he's drama, but like blaze who looks miserable now he's done his dash don't come crawling when Gould puts you on the outer like mahoneys about to be.

  • Man , I love this place haha .

Anywhoo ,  the future superstar of the game is gone to Canterbury now  , along with the future of Parramatta and the most complete footballer the game has ever seen who seems to be with us for the rest of the year anyways .  Wonder what happens to the big player shuffle that the tigers apparently demanded to release Galvin ?

looking over this now , it actually seems quite logical the kid went to Cantebury . In his head it's no brainier , get to be the man leading his very own team , or come to Parramatta and be regarded as Moses's bitch .  If I was Gus I would've 1000% of sold it to him that his turn to be a Cleary or Moses and he'll never get that at Parramatta until Moses has retired .
considering he has just been in a situation where he was Luais bitch , he was always going to take that bait .

    • Galvin is a bit over rated at the moment which is why I was indifferent to his signing - happy if we got him, happy if we didnt.

Don't get me wrong, he is a good player with heaps of potential but everyones talking as if he's already cemented himself as a future immortal. We've seen plenty of hyped up players fall short in the past.

If he was smart he should've taken a couple years to learn off a better half (Moses, Luai), but his blow up at the Tigers shows a bit of arrogance and his belief that he is better/ready to lead a team. But it's a lot easier to be a running half and his recent games show that he isn't there yet when it comes to actually organising the game.

      • Mate , in his position and his age , it'd be hard to choose us .  Eels bias aside, on one hand you have a club on top of the table offering you the chance to have your own team to lead , a GM that's as high profile as you can get who talks the talk and has the clout to back his fat gob up , and geographically is located 10 mins from The Shire , 30 mins tops back to his house , and have TPAs up their poopa valve no doubt, and most of all he's not playing second fiddle to Moses and will forever be regarded as Mitch's apprentice. Gus has sold him ( whether right or wrong ) the concept of " it's your turn to be the star now " .  On the other side , you have Mark O'Neil who's a Tigers man , and a fucking dope , you have Ben Rogers who's also an ex Tigers man and a dope , both of which would obviously have ties to Ben-chi Marshall ,  and you have a bunch of dopey bean counters running the show who would've sounded like dork bean counters selling themselves compared to Gus ,  it's a no brainer . I can't believe people are shocked he turned his nose up at our club. Not to mention our location is smack bang in the middle of bum fuck Idaho from a commuting perspective , then if we are living out at the centre of Eggs , throw another 30 mins on his trip each way ( I'm assuming he still lives in the Glenquarie / Cambltwn area where he grew up ) ,

We have nothing to offer other then money , and even offering more of that wasn't enough .  I don't  kid thinks he needs to learn off Moses or Luai , that's the thing. And to be fair to him , I don't think Luai wanted to teach him anything , and I feel he will learn more from Jason Taylor at Canterbury than he'd learn off Moses. Moses only seems to have found his own feet the past two seasons , till then he was like a 10th year apprentice 😂

        • But but but, we have Ryles, money and a brand new COE.

Surely that's all we need to land big name players 🤣

Seriously, a leper colony would have a better chance of attracting talent than the likes of Mark O'Neill.

  • can you add another "c" in succeed. Its killing me

"No.
Its no use chasing a guy like this you have to find players like this not wait until there something then expect you have a chance to recruit them. This is how you get into cap trouble overpaying to get a guy like this moved."
