Exactly what Gus said, does anyone believe that bullshite? That's just a way to get around the cap by saying 'Galvin really want to play for us and that's all we can give him'. Can't wait to hear the dollars that have been offered.

Gus - ' Galvin has come out and said his preference is to play at the Bulldog, so we are going to try and accommodate that'

  • Best thing we can do is run over the top of him in 2 weeks, and I'm sure Ryles and the lads will have a point to prove

  • The guys so full of shit and he couldn't lie straight in bed.

Tbh like is said, I only want guys who want to play for the club not guys that only care about themselves. Obviously Lachie was never a Parra fan cause if he truly was, there's zero chance he'd play for our arch rivals.

Move on and make a play for someone like Sanden.

    • Exactly, we still building our culture anyway. Not really in a position to be selling ourselves to big names yet. If Galvin tanks the dogs season that's not our problem 😂 just keep doing what we are doing

      • See this is the issue I have what if a player like this comes in again and exactly the samething happens there's nothing JR can do and I have no doubt he'd have had a chat to Galvin and or his agent regardless.Thing is do we have the capability in competition with other sides with more enticing off the field advantages to really attract top class players and do we have guys on our R and R committee to close deals.

These are the bigger picture questions we must answer if we do not we are sending JR into a gunfight with a knife.Surely fans can see this.Yet from what I've seen the last 12 months from the mentioned and front office you'd suggest we are the laughing stock of the nrl.No chance in hell these guys are putting JR in a place to succeed but who do you think will take the fall. You know who.

But who goes unscathed it's much like alot around that happend to BA alot just didn't want to see it yet now JR has the bullseye on his chest and the cancer that's running our club remain.

        • Exactly, and like Tad said, the system will always be more important than the individual (well said Tad).

A lot are turning on Galvin & hope they are right, but Galvin specifically is not the biggest concern.

The club was unable to attract a player that the head coach clearly wanted & we offered big $$ for, after losing a '10 year' contracted player in the same position.

We can forget Galvin & move on, and as EA & others have mentioned there is some real talent about Lorenzo.

But not every position can be filled by your juniors, its just impossible to get that much developed first grade talent in every position.

Ryles needs to be able to rely on his R&R department also, and at this stage we are not seeing genuinely in-demand players chosing the Eels depsite some clear advantages with Galvin.

Maybe Galvin would've ended up a mistake as many claims, we don't know, but our 2026 season chances increased dramatically with him at 6 next year.

We now hope that our talented juniors can make that extra leap, plenty of highly touted ones haven't.

Its a huge gamble we didn't choose to make, and we have invested so heavily on Mitch Moses for what appears to be 2-3 years of a rebuild, not contending.

We all love what Ryles is building, there is no doubt in that, but with Iongi & Smith already young & inexperienced in our spine, some experience at 5/8 to replace Brown would've been very handy for Moses.

          • NoS your touching on another huge issue while we may have juniors coming we are now burning the best years of the #2 halfback in the comp that's a bigger issue for mine.

We aren't contending this year or next that's a given now Moses turns what 32 in 26 the timing is terrible going through a rebuild and with no real long term foreseeable halves options staring us in the face getting Galvin would have solved at least one of those problems.DB leaving now while acceptable like you mention they needed multiple options as soon as that ship sailed.

Right now after crossing our fingers on development we've got no real long term options in halves. We are still looking for a long term option at hooker too.

This timing is even worse now with expansion coming also.I don't think what was already a stretched talent pool is going to get stretched nd more expensive again.Imagine thinking 750 for a half for the next 3.5 years is thought as expensive please.

            • Coryn absolutely, it was & has been my biggest concern with all this since Dylan was weighing up his decision.

Mentioned this scenario in this blog from a while back - https://www.1eyedeel.com/forum/topics/the-dylan-brown-conundrum

The Eels have invested all-in on Mitch Moses, and were right to do so, none of us are complaining about that.

The problem is we've now invested half that money in Moses over a rebuild. Money isn't the concern so much as the time Mitch has.

We are heading in a great direction, we all appreciate that, but with our spine so inexperienced we all but write-off genuinely contending until 2027/2028 (at best) as you say?

That leaves Mitch a few seasons to try and break a 40 year draught.

Then we are in the market for developing or purchasing another elite halfback, capable of winning premierships. Thats much harder to do, and as you said, the timing is not great with the expansion coming.

I feel Ryles saw Galvin as a two birds with one stone scenario, he either fills that hole at 5/8 where he could become anything, or, he potentially takes the reins from Moses and develops into a halfback.

That then allows one of our juniors to develop into the 5/8th position.

There is a reason Mitch was so keen on Galvin, imo, that tells us a lot. He knows better than any of us what he needs to help get us to a premiership.

Maybe the Eels have something else in mind, and great if so, but it just feels like we've lacked some foresight & been beaten in the pitch.

          • Spot on NOS!

    • Think he's on his way to the Cowboys.
