Being Krisnan Inu

First of all, applause to the mighty Eels for a commendable performance against the Warriors. However, a couple of things arose out of the match which I'd like your thoughts...1. Tim Mannah - here was his opportunity to step up and I thought he played well save that drop ball after we scored our first try. Nonetheless, I don't recall seeing him in the second half. Is he carrying an injury or was DA unimpressed? Perhaps others can shed light on this.2. Jarryd Hayne - what a game!! He's a freak, but if found it telling that DA gave him a rest with 12 mins to go. In my book, I believe DA wanted to see whether the team could functions without him. We weren't at our best yet scored a late try so I think we passed the test. Thoughts...3. Jeff Robson and Todd Lowrie - despite the fact most of us believe we're a better side with Mateo and KK in the 17, these two blokes played admirably. JR pulled down Vatuvei in a one-on-one tackle and Lowrie was just about best on ground. It's going to be tough to drop either.4. KRISNAN INU - it was obvious that, during the 2nd half, efforts were made from a team perspective to try to involve Inu. I thought he played as well as he was able, and it was interesting that he dwelled 2nd off the ruck for most of the second 40, with regular service from Mortimer, however, he struggled to make a significant impact. What I took from this is that DA is happy with Inu and sees him in our future plans, yet appreciates that he currently lacks confidence an amended his game plan to accommodate.Furthermore, despite media reports that DA and Inu don't see eye-to-eye, I viewed this shift in tactics as proof that DA sees Inu as very much part of the push for GF glory in the years to come. I do hope that his apparent impotence in attack is a temporary misnomer and when teamed with Tahu next season, he'll return to his mercurial best. What are your thoughts...?

  • good read mate, yeah i was wondering the same thing about timmy, not entirely sure what was up with that. I agree with your Robson and Lowrie point. Thing is Lowrie knows he's playing for a contract, if and when he gets this, will that mean he will go back to the player we bagged on before, time will tell. About Inu, you can see the guy is trying, thing is you gotta give him the ball while hes hitting the line at speed, from the scrum he was just standing there. We all know what he is capable of, you just got to know how to get him playing like his old self and that is using his speed, strength and footwork
  • Re: 1) Do you think maybe Anderson was testing how the side would be able to perform 3 with props? Given that Cayless will come into the side next week and play as many minutes as both Mannah and Latimore put together, I think tonight showed we could go into next week's game with one less prop?
  • On Krisnan, he had a few opportunities in the 2nd half to push a pass to Burt unmarked on his outside and he didn't do it. You could tell Burt was getting kind of annoyed. I suspect Krisnan still doesn't have his full confidence back yet, or, perhaps as many have suggested it would be better if it was Inu who was the one unmarked outside waiting to receive it (from Tahu next year?)
  • I have been wondering whether Mannah is injured for a couple of weeks, or whether he is just suffering first year in first grade burn out. He has definitely lost some impact in the last couple of weeks. Usually he is able to stand in the tackle, push through it and get a quick play the ball (similar to Steve Price) but in recent weks he has been dominated.

Might be dangerous to play 1 less prop 1 Eyed, particularly come semi final time. I dont think we could afford the change in momentum that occured last night when we interchanged our front row in a big game.

I also thought Hayne looked injured, he seemed a bit ginger at times. Maybe that is why he was rested.

Agree, hard to leave Lowrie and Robson out, looks like DA is going to stick with them and its getting too late to introduce KK or Mateo.

Inu loks like he is trying, but is just a yard too slow or something. Like LiverpoolNumber 9 I also noticed that Inu was standing flat footed when he received the ball.
  • Krisnan was very quiet in the first half, obviously the word at half time from DA was to get him early ball, problem was we were shifting wide to slowly, thus the warriors were able to shift across in time and cover the danger. I agree with you Bourbs that he played aswell as he was allowed to, he made a coupple of half breaks, a coupple of good offloads and was aggresive in defense as usual.

On regards to props, i though Latimore played alright last night (i had previously been unimpressed with him) however by the time he came on we were already dominating the go forward, so obvioulsy he doesnt deserve all the praise however he did keep it rolling.
    • Funny you mention the radio broadcast, I have listened to many game calls, on either 2GB and ABC, and they differ so much from the actual game when i see it. The thing is when you listen to a game on the radio, it's their interpretation, don't get me wrong I enjoy the broadcast, but it can be quite different to the actual footage.
  • inu's problem is that he recieves the ball standing still instead of running onto it!
  • I did notice that Inu was off his game last night.

At one point in particular... He went to put a hit on Mckinnon and almost came off second best. A fully focused Inu would have had Wade still picking up his teeth.
  • What Inu needs to realise is that he cant go through defence every time. If he actually focused a bit more on drawing in an opposing winger and putting Burt into space regularly, he would eventually get more one-on-one time with defenders. At the moment it seems like all defenders know he's trying to go through and then the late offload back inside.
