Concerts

Following up on my discussion over favourite music artists, i want to know what concerts you have seen live and on top of that were there any acts in particular that were pretty average when you thought they would be amazing.

Thankfully i haven't had that as all the artists i've seen live have been good at least. I have heard Axel Rose with Guns 'n' Roses is dreadful live though.

  • Hoodoo Gurus are hard to beat live. They really crank it up and have a great time with the audience. One of the best concerts I have been to however was Midnight Oil at Blacktown Workers in the early 00's. They had their chocolate wheel going to pick the next song to play. They played stuff they hadn't done for years. I really think the smaller venues are so much better than going to a stadium to watch a band play. They are much more intimate and you feel that the band is playing for you, rather than just making a performance.

  • I saw the gunners last night at Suncorp and yes you're right Axel's vocals were not the greatest. At some stages I thought the sound wasn't great with it being at an outdoor stadium, other times I thought there must have been dramas with his microphone , other times I thought his schedule must have been too much and he was losing his voice. He seemed to reach behind his back at different stages which changed his sound - not sure if he had some direct control over his own audio or what was going on. And at other points he sounded quite good, Welcome to the Jungle was maybe the fifth track they played and that was the first time in the show I thought he sounded ok, up until then I was like what is going on??? Having said all that it was a brilliant show, they played for a bit over 3 hours and did all their hits. I don't think anyone would have left disappointed.

    • I saw Bruno Mars about a month ago at Allianz, the speakers were dreadful. Outdoor stadiums are not made for concerts.

Qudos Bank Arena however is made for concerts therefore the acousitcs of the area are supreme.

      • Stadium concerts don't work unless the stage is in the middle of the field and the screen is hanging above, i.e, Ed Sherran. Otherwise you are too far away from the action.

        • Depends on what stadium. Allianz felt like Qudos Bank Arena in Homebush compared to distance.

If you were at Accor then maybe, or up in the nosebleeds.

  • You name it , I've likley seen it good and bad .  Can't beat The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac live , and John Fogerty was awesome too , whilst mind blowing bat shit crazy eccentric.  He would stop mid song and blast the bloke on the sound controls. Even go and adjust the sound himself.

Ed Sheehan who I really loved and listened too alot pre going to his concert , I barely listened too ever again after going to his concert. Put me to sleep he bored me that much . Was very disappointed.

Then you have one like Pink who I hated but the mrs dragged me along to after begging me to grab tix from work. She was actually super entertaining and the crowd is full of hot chicks.

  • I work at all the major event venues in Sydney:

    -Qudos Bank Arena

    -Accor Stadium

    -Allianz Stadium

    -SCG

    -CommBank Stadium

So, I've had the pleasure of working at and attending pretty much all of the major acts from around the world. Eminem, Bruno Mars, Elton John, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Queen, you name it and I've probably seen it. Qudos Bank Arena is definitely the best place for concerts as it has the best sound. Not suprising though as arenas are made for concerts.

The best performance I've ever attended though wasn't a concert. It was a festival in Belgium called Tomorrowland. By far the best festival/show I've ever seen and highly recommend it to anyone who has plans on going to it. Worth every cent. The camping experience also makes it much better.

  • The Beach Boys 50 year anniversary tour in 2012 at Allphones Arena, Sydney the sang 45 songs and I knew the words to every one

  • I saw a Stevie Wright concert maybe 10 years ago on  date with a High school ex girlfriend (with my wife's agreement) at Brisbane. He was in a wheelchair and sang Evie . Absolutely heart felt and brilliant.Made me cry. He has since passed away

"Well as Ryles said, Edwards gives you that versatility. PM is right, Edwards gave us what Smith does sort of, but can play middle. Thats what Ryles prefers a Hooker that's not specialist. Helps your bench rotation out massively."

Need for Speed

Here we go again after another loss and once again it's evident we need speed and quality players in our backline. The game in 2026 relies on scramble defence from your outside backs and edges who also need to have the strike to finish opportunities…
