The most hysterical saga was over Zaps. He came out declaring that Zappia was the most professional CEO in the business and anyone who wanted him sacked was a moron and then two weeks later he was leading the lynching brigade.
The Tele does have good links into the club because they took 3P's side in the election but thats mostly through Josh Massoud.
i'm not expecting anything jaw-droppingly shocking.. or even accurate.
In my opinion, Phil Rothfield is a typical arrogant pig-headed journalist. The man thinks he is the messiah of Rugby League, and what ever his opinion is on something, must be right.
It annoys me how he contradicts himself on a weekly basis aswell, i remember reading his blogs in regards to the Origin team him wanting Mullen at half and Gidley at five-eigth, then when Kimmorley played well he came out and stated that Kimmorley should have been there from the start. 3 weeks ago when Gidley did infact play in the halves at Newcastle (which failed) he than decided to use the selection to lambast Brian Smith on his poor coaching, when he himself said Gidley should have been five-eigth for NSW!
The most vile thing about him is his agendas on certain people from within Rugby League, some of which being Philip Ronald Gould, Danny Weidler, Brian Smith, Daniel Anderson, Footy Show Crew, Tim Sheens amongst others.
With whatever ammo he can find (even if it is speculation) he will publish it and try and create public debate, some how he gets off on trying to bring these people down, its immature and sick imo.
In general he's not a very good journalist, just last week he was complaining because some coaches were putting their players on media ban's and some other players (including Mateo) just didn't feel like commenting. Well BOO HOO! heaven forbid Buzz, are the coaches and player's making your job to hard? Maybe they don't want to comment because you take everything out of context and twist the shit out of words to make a story out of nothing. I just really dislike the bloke.
Moral of the story? Ignore all of these sensationalist hacks. Read Roy Masters and Phil Gould. Gould, whilst a self-flagellating ego, does have cogent points. Roy Masters is an exceptional journalist who never falls into the trap of partisan rhetoric and not only forwards sensible points, but educates and informs in a fair and balanced fashion.
I thought I remembered reading some of his stuff and he did seem to have an agenda against certain people... Gus especially, who I quite like reading.
Glad to hear I'm not just jumping to conclusions, I was trying to figure out what he was about...
Let's take a look at the last two big Rothfield 'reveal all' blogs
ROTHFIELD: "Denis Fitzgerald has gone and now it’s time for the new board to rebuild the Parramatta Eels.
And as harsh as it sounds, it’s time to tap some old stagers on the shoulder.
Skipper Nathan Cayless has been a loyal clubman for many years but his performances are not measuring up to his pay packet.
The new board is quietly hoping Cayless will get an offer too good to refuse from the European Super League."
COMMENT: He only has one more year to run right? We should keep him and (HOPEFULLY) get him a premiership next year.
ROTHFIELD: I presume you’re talking about Nathan Cayless. I don’t think you’ll win a premiership next year. Nathan is 31. He’s had 13 seasons at Parramatta and it’s probably time he moved on.
COMMENT: I’m not an Eels supporter but they have already commenced rebuilding with some excellent signing in the engine room for next year. Add that with the blooding of a young halves combination and the return of injured players I believe they are heading in the right direction unlike Cronulla who will probably pick up the dead wood because no one else wants them.
ROTHFIELD: Who are the haklves you are going to blood. Daniel Mortime is a terrific young player but I don’t have much of an opinion on Jeff Robson. For some reason Daniel Anderson isn’t interest in Albert Kelly, who many regard as the most promising young half-back in the game. He’s just made the NSW Under 18’s team but he can’t get a go at Parra.
COMMENT: who would be your starting line up?
ROTHFIELD: There’s any number of options Daniel Anderson could use. I just don’t see the point of picking Cayless and Inu for much longer. And I wouldn’t keep picking Robson at half-back. He’s not up to it. The Eels had no right to be beaten by a depleted Tigers outfit on Monday night. Anderson made a huge mistake letting Brett Finch go.
ROTHFIELD: I’m on record as saying Daneil Anderson should not have got the job. They could have got Stephen Kearney from Storm. They didn’t even Shane Flanaghan an interview.
COMMENT: “Anderson made a huge mistake letting Brett Finch go.”?
You’re kidding. How about you go look at Finch’s kicking and passing over the opening games of the season and then tell me it’s worth $300K a year!
ROTHFIELD: He’s a much better player than Robson
COMMENT: Albert Kelly has a lot of talent but has some attitude problems. That seems to be one reason why Parra won’t pay overs to keep him.
ROTHFIELD: A lot of players have attititude problems mate. But most coaches can get them sorted.
COMMENT: Short and Simple, Can Parra do next year what the dogs have done this year??
ROTHFIELD: Only with a new half-back and a new coach.
ROTHFIELD (On why not changing side): Ricky decided to bring in his fresh faces at the right time. They’d lost all those games in a row and there was no pressure any more to make the finals. That’s what Daniel Anderson should be doing now. If he picks Kelly at half-back, its going to give him great experience for the remainder of the season and set him up well for 2010.
ROTHFIELD: The Daniel Anderson signing was a mistake. He might have a decent record in England but that’s like coaching metropolitan cup. It is a fact that this guy had massive relationship problems with players when he last coached in the NRL. I have no doubt whatsoever that Denis Fitzgerald should have signed Stephen Kearney as the first grade coach when Michael Hagan resigned.
ROTHFIELD: Anderson has got a team that almost made the grand final in 2007. He is not the right guy for the job. He is a bit like Brian Smith with the old-school teacher mentality. During the off-season, he had them training 26 days straight. He has already fallen out with key players at the club. His decision to play Jarryd Hayne at five-eighth has been a disaster. He gets rid of Brett Finch, who has been asked to play alongside a guy who hasn’t got a clue about playing at number six and he’s playing behind a pack of forwards that’s getting smashed every week.
ROTHFIELD: I know for a fact that he wants to get rid of the skipper Nathan Cayless after 13 years at the club.
ROTHFIELD: I think they’ve got a leadership problem with senior players. Both Cayless and Nathan Hindmarsh have given wonderful service over the years but I don’t know if they do enough as leaders away from the football. It’s fairly obvious a lot of the younger players aren’t putting in and this is where the leaders should step in.
