Thurston as halves coach.

Just putting it out there...

JT has taken on an ambassador role at the Cows today. Now, I'm not sure if that is a full time, 5 days per week type role.

If not and he could spare half a day per week or fortnight, I believe that he would be great to mentor our young halves pairing.

The experience and knowledge he has is incrediblle and he would be fantastic to have on board.

I say offer him very decent coin because I believe in both of our halves talents and investing in great mentorship would be worth every cent imo.

Maybe the eels should swoop before the Broncos or Titans etc. or any other clubs do. OK, he may not be interested, but money talks...

Thoughts?

  • He has said that he doesn't want anything to do with coaching numerous times. It's the role he wanted being ambassador. I say it would be close to full-time.

  • I would love JT as our halves coach, I’ve put it out there before, but apparently not interested in coaching

    • If we ever did approach him, just don't mention the word coach/ing. Just use the word "Mentor" instead.  You never know, we might trick him ;)

Even someone like Brett Kimmorley would be a good halves coach l reckon.  I think he may have done some work as a halves mentor before.  Was it with our club for a short while?

  • He would be perfect - but alas his time will be completely taken up with The Cows, Television work and State of Origin stuff - at least for the forseeable future anyways.

Huge fan of employing a halves mentor though - especially for young Brown, who would benefit greatly from regular guidance from a halfback with a ton of NRL experience. Someone who can develop the "mental" side of his game more than anything; preperation, play selection, objective decision making, leadership. Someone who was a great NRL citizen as well as player, someone who excelled at all levels, was a good club man, and a good human off the park.

What's Stacey Jones up to these days?

Also, if the club did decide to go down the avenuue of a halves mentor, they should be prepared to pay for quality.

    • I agree Kramer.

A halves mentor with a shitload of experience right now would be worth outlaying a decent sum of money on.

I've always thought that Moses has all the skills he just needs a bit of regular guidance and that was when he was still at the Tigers.

Now that Brown seems to be partnering him and being so young, I reckon it is essential that we get someone.

      • Krams is right, realistically JT has no time . "No time" being a euphemism for it's not what I really want to do.

But Grunts, it's a good hypothetical idea. JT's skill and ultra-champion competitiveness would have been be a godsend.

Still, hopefully the coaching staff pursue a halves mentor for Brown and Moses. And secure someone with the ilk and competitiveness of a JT, Jones, Kimmorley, a Johns, or a Sterlo. Shame, Sterlo probably has no time either.

  • Well if the Johns boys can do more than one club can’t see why he cant

  • Didn't Andrew Johns come out and do this kind of thing with Parramatta a few years back?.

    • Joey did it with numerous clubs

      Roosters
