Thoughts on the Eli Kaota brain injury ?

Crazy that he was allowed to step onto the field after the shot he took in warmups. He was basically knocked out for a second. Storm might be able to seek legal compensation from Tonga for it ? Im not even sure if he'll play footy next year or ever again?

          • Post Judge Judy & blame games, what's the best way forward? Tighter protocols? A "Katoa Rule": from the sheds on, more than one head knock and you're off, no ifs or buts'? If so, bigger benches could be the way. Good for player development, too.

            • It seems insane that Eli passed his HIA after the first on-field hit, which obviously came after the warm up hit?

How is that possible? Can there be significant risk / damage after an impact, and a player not show HIA symptoms, or delayed symptoms?

I know you are not a surgeon HOE, but I expect you to know the answer.

              • NOS, LOL. Dunno brother. The brain is still a mystery in many ways. But it's safe to say, the more you collide into other objects at force or forces onto you, via head or body, the more the chances of brain injury, either immediate concussive, brain bleeds (Katoa) or longer-term (CTE).

It's the nature of our sport. CTE is a much harder battle for our game to win than concussions and HIA protocols because it's due to smaller, repetitive forces of practically every tackle causing brain damage over time, eventually, in most cases. Which is why the NRL are side-stepping it. Downplaying it. For now. Until they can no longer run from it. Until that asteroid hits.

                • Thats a very good answer, HOE, thankyou.

Sounds like that asteroid could be catastrophic for the game. CTE can only be diagnosed after death, is that correct? So there is no way to scan for it, manage it, and then no cure even if we could.

                  Scary stuff.

  • How the hell wasn't shoulder to the head not picked up by the coach? I mean fuck me dead, his head almost left his shoulders such was the level of impact. Sweat flew everywhere and somehow he was ok to play.

I just hope the guy is ok and it doesn't end his career
