Thoughts on the Eli Kaota brain injury ?

Crazy that he was allowed to step onto the field after the shot he took in warmups. He was basically knocked out for a second. Storm might be able to seek legal compensation from Tonga for it ? Im not even sure if he'll play footy next year or ever again?

I suspect easy live CTE scanning would make some military careers untenable(repeated small blast overpressure may cause CTE).

If it was classed as a combat sport it becomes wild west for rule changes. It would improve the game for fans....until their fave player brain bleeds and fucking dies onfield.

Imagine being R.Price and thinking back over your time. (if he can still do that. I spoke with him 10yrs+ ago and he wasn't real flash then) Would he feel anger, regret or satisfaction that played it as tough as can be

                    • I think in the NRL players are hit with more force when they are hit in the head , 105 kg player running as fast as he can then coping a shoulder or elbow to head is a force no boxer would have to face .

Ray Price played in era a where getting elbows  to head from high impact running happened 10 times a game , the fact Ray is still alive and coherent is a miracle given the savage high impact blows he took to the  head  .

                    • While I agree to a point (some h.weight shots have serious speed and impactpower) that nrl has the higher body-stop/slosh impacts, CTE seems to have a cumulative component. Boxers for the "win"

Also, actual Knockouts seem to count more....my son got knocked out a few times in footy and none in limited Jnr boxing...so I haven't got a fucking clue. You might be right Frank. I

  • The first incident in warm up, I've seen lesser collisions resulting in a player who's been incapacitated sent for category 1s.  The duty of care by those responsible was not taken

    • No idea how he wasn't ruled out instantly after that. Hit the showers and that's you done buddy.

  • Why the hell is Hopoate shoulder charging his own in the warm up?

Not sure who the doctors were or where they got their quals.

Feel sorry for the bloke. Maybe he'll sue the other dope.

    • It should have been taken out of his hands.  Players usually say they're ok as a badge of honour.

  • Horrendous..if his career is ended he should consider legal action...He looked really sick on teh bench...and berr holes whoah

  • Holy shit. Much respect to Eli, truly one of the toughest to ever play the game.

  • Extremely sad for Kaota, and devastating for him and his family.

This is a huge blight on the game and incompetency all round. How the heck could he be allowed to have played? There will be ramifications here and the NRL need to be v explicit (without coaches vested interests here) in defence and how tackles are done. We do not want touch footy / oz tag and head collisions will / can occur, but the need to be looking at this and making some calls on tackles etc.

Parents, particularly mums will start to turn off and not let their kids play.
