‘I needed it’: Arthur reflects on Eels sacking

Leeds: Former Parramatta coach Brad Arthur says he’s a better coach now than the one who was sacked by the Eels last year, admitting it was time for both him and the club to go their separate ways.

“A lot of people said I looked relieved and happy, and I felt like I was at the time,” he said about his mid-season sacking

“I was grateful for the opportunity they gave me. Eleven years, it was a great life and my family got to live a great life. There were negatives with it, but there were plenty of positives with it. I wouldn’t change any of it at all. Probably there’s some lessons there that I maybe knew or some things that I knew I needed to change or got wrong. But sometimes you don’t make those until you get sacked or terminated.

“I’ve looked at it from a perspective of ‘it is what it is, I’ve had a good life and enjoyed it, but what can I learn from it’? So if I got any opportunities again moving forward, is there anything that I could do differently? But I feel a lot of that just comes with time and experience. You don’t learn from anything unless you make mistakes. It’s just making sure you don’t make them over and over.”

  • It would be interesting to hear what he thinks he did wrong,  i wonder if it would be the same as what we think he did wrong?.

  • I wouldn’t change any of it at all...What The Actual Fuck BA...either a stunning lack of  awareness and imagination or another example of why shit like this just isn't worth reading

  • Don't care about the Arthur's.

  • They all say the same shit. One thing he won't have at his next nrl job is getting multiple extensions like he did at parra. Imo he should of been sacked 2018 but anyway good luck to him

    Contradicts himself many times 🤣🤣🤣

  • He's mastered the role of coming across as a good bloke who knows more than he does.

He was fuming when he got let go of Parra . Wouldn't even go to his sons jersey presentation with the rest of the family. Acted like he was hard done by . When asked to give comment on Parras 0-3 start to this season he gave his worthless 2c opinion then asked Buzz Rothfield not to print it . Buzz thought that was the sign of a great bloke as well.

An easy thing to pick up even in this is you'll see the top coaches in the game thinking they're on a continuous journey to become better coaches. Whether it be trips overses , high level assistants they can lean on , or learning off players .. it's about continued evolution of their style and a willingness to never stop learning . BA thought he knew it all until he got sacked and now wants to tell eveyone it took being sacked for him to reflect that he started as a rookie coach with no media training and was learning on the job . So glad Ryles came in and wiped BAs shit culture and leadership quickly .

BA also said he's above the lebel of being an assistant and was using the Super League as a stop gap to get back here . No offers have eventuated so now he's open to everything . Just an absolute flop. We wasted the best part of 11 seasons but onwards and upwards .

  • He sounds selfish mentioning how he and his family were able to live a good life. Seems that is his main take on his 11 years, living the good life.

    • Yep, seems like it was all about himself and how much he could squeeze out of the club. His right hand man Gutherson,  was tarred with the same brush.   The most selfish coach/captain duo in Parramatta’s history.  Fans could see straight through what he was up to with family getting the rails run.
