The Parramatta Eels can confirm that Shaun Lane has made the decision to retire from the NRL marking the end of an outstanding playing career and the beginning of a new chapter within the club.
While Lane remains contracted for the remainder of the 2025 season, he has accepted a new role within the club’s Elite Pathways and NRLW programs, focusing on mental skills and athlete wellness.
Lane’s decision reflects a natural transition into life beyond the game, where he will continue to make a positive impact on the next generation of Eels players.
Eels General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill praised Shaun’s contributions to the club, both on and off the field.
“Shaun has been a wonderful ambassador for the Parramatta Eels. He carries himself with humility, integrity, and professionalism, and he’s been an exceptional role model for younger players,” O’Neill said. “We’re proud to see him step into this important new role, where his leadership and passion for player welfare will continue to make a difference.”
Shaun joined the Eels in 2019 and quickly established himself as a vital member of the team. His on-field leadership and consistency were pivotal to the club’s success, including being a key contributor in the Eels' 2022 NRL Grand Final side.
“I’ve absolutely loved my time playing for the Eels,” Lane said. “This club means a lot to me, and I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences I’ve had and the relationships I’ve built here. I’m really thankful to the fans for their unwavering support throughout my career—it’s meant the world to me.
“I’m now looking forward to continuing my career at Parramatta in a different capacity, helping our young athletes thrive on and off the field.”
While playing NRL, Lane had already reached significant educational milestones, completing a Bachelor of Health Sciences, a Graduate Diploma in Psychology, and is currently working towards a Master’s in Positive Psychology.
The Parramatta Eels thank Shaun for his continued service to the club and look forward to supporting him in his transition from player to mentor.

800k.? I.waa thinking $450.
Where did u get 800k
I've seen it on X a few times already, and this wouldn't surprise me. He was in massive demand in 2022/23.
I've seen the 800K a figure a few times, I would almost guarantee he's on something closer to 800K than 450K.
Chiefy... we first got him from Manly on a deal around 400/450K a season I thought. I don't think that's the case.
What We Know
In March 2020, Shaun Lane signed a three-year deal with Parramatta, reportedly worth around AUD 1.3 million in total FOX SPORTS. That equates to approximately AUD 433,000 per season.
In late September 2022, reports indicated he was on the verge of extending his contract until the end of 2026, with the new deal “likely to be worth close to $2 million” (presumably over three years) RedditZero Tackle.
That would suggest an approximate average of AUD 666,000 per season under the terms being discussed in 2022.
I thought it was 650
600 wouldn't surprise me. Jesh if Matterson goes, we're going to have a massive bankroll
You'd think so , however it seems like our club just don't seem to have a big bankroll no matter how many highly paid players we fuck off. We released a few Mil worth of players and haven't signed one marquee type player since. We are the opposite of Easts and Canterbury , who release sediment players and sign the froff , we release the froff and sign the sediment.
That's because we aren't going to overpay for good players...that makes no sense.
What we are going to do now is just overpay for unproven youngsters with potential. Get it??
Check out the new potential signing LOL
