I use to work as a corporate box runner between the kitchens and those corporate boxes when I was about 15-16 years of age. I was a young fan so excited to be in a position to see the game AND meet the players and corporate. I got to see the radio announcers and TV presenters as well as stand in the video refs box and see them go through the decision making process.
Alan introduced himself to me about 2005-2006 whehn he noticed I kept working all the Parramatta home games. He complimented me on my work ethic and attitude. He said what position he was in and that if I ever needed a referee as a job to call him. He gave me his number. I was truely humbled.
EVERY SINGLE GAME i worked those corporate boxes he remembered my name and asked how I was. He made me (pretty much the cleaner) feel valued and appreciated. He took a genuine interest in me and then found out that he knew my great uncle who attended the Wentworth dog racing. Both were big fans.
Alan Overton was the most gentle, dedicated and genuine people Ive ever met and probably the BEST person Ive ever come to know in a position of power.
I just want to say that even as a kid, a cleaner, I remember those conversations he made time for. It is a true loss for the world that Alan Overton isnt in it.
They truely dont make them like Alan Overton anymore.

That was a wonderful Tribute, Aracon he would be very proud looking down on you now to know that he could garner such respect from a young man...... you do him proud.
Good Stuff Aracom , Al was one of life's true gentlemans . I will post a more in-depth blog about Al and his deeds for the club it will also highlight the what absolute useless chairman the club has today .
Seems that the indigenous people of Australia ( A particular Tribe) are looking to claim a large proportion of Melbourne as native title so they can make sure the region is looked after correctly. The Waterways, native lands etc..Is this ok and do…
