No but I think it is great that Canberra have the balls to ask the NRL about the salary cap. They have no interest in who the player is rather how one club can play unders. This nonsense about back ending contracts is simply a rort. Do we really think Wighton will be at South's in 4 years. What I hope it does is highlight an issue rather than focus on a player.
Bcause you're signing talent your cap ain't able to fit. If you could massively backend then why not just sign 20 million worth of players next year all on half their values and happily burn the next three years buy filling the remaining spots with pub league players ? I think we all know it leads to paying big name players to retire behind the scenes.
Id be more then happy for us to burn a season or two every few years and load up on superstars and win it once every 5 or so years.
what's funny is 5 minutes ago Paul Kent was marveling at how smart Moses's management was for holding out to see if Keary would be medically retired by the Roosters so The Roosters could sign Moses , now he's all outraged by the Whighton thing. If Easts retired Keary and signed Moses he was all good with that.

You could try to do that, but you've then got to find the players who'd be willing to sign for one year, and evening you could it still wouldn't guarantee success, in fact it almost certainly would fail. You can't just throw a bunch of players together and expect them to instantly gel, no matter how talented they are. It's not a rort, it's a smart method of managing the cap if you do it well.
Why would you have to sign players for one year ? You'd just have to ensure the first year they all they're all front loaded for instance , you'd take last years Eels squad , you'd still keep Moses , Brown and Papali as let's remeber you'd have planned this out . Then you'd sign 4 top level off contract players for added strike and front load them on minimum wages . With an inflated wage on the back end to incentivise them. Imagine adding Kikau and 3 or 4 other key players to last years squad without losing anyone and then worry about it later.
No way in the world do I feel sorry for that cunt, I think it's great. Whilst I don't like the fact South's are obviously getting preferential treatment if they're allowed to sign him, I think it's fucking fantastic that pRicky is being abandoned by his star player.
Whats baffles me is how on Earth Canberra are failing to produce decent players ? They used to be a production line of superstars picking from the whole of Rural NSW , now nada . Ever since that cockhead arrived down there. I'd love to see an exodus of players following whighton until that cockhead gets punted once and for all from our game . I think we should be targeting any decent player that's off contract in that shithole.
Sorry for the little runt, that was given a lifeline at the Eels and shat all over us. Nope. No Way.
However I am in two minds, If Rickys whinging can shed light on the following.
As a competitive sport some clubs are deliberately held back by sticking to and honouring the Salary Cap whilst other clubs publicly mock it with non compliance sigining SOO players at what sometimes feels like at will. With the NRL management boys club turning a blind eye to their business networking mates.
It makes for an unequal footing and does not promote a game where clubs can grow and make a tilt at the grandfinal, It leaves supporters feeling that it is a rigged system. As a game we loose supporters and credibilty of fairness when the NRL fail to act on these issues.
Its time to either scrap the cap, or design a system where each player is worth so many determined points. A team/ squad can only have so many points to be allowed to compete. This will stop the hidden system behind the salary cap.
30 players = 12,000 points total
SOO Rep Players worth 1,200 points
Dally M players last 3 years 1000 points
Former Rep Players worth 750 points
50 game players 500 points
Debutants 150 points
etc etc etc
Of course it seems hard to achieve to begin with but with great minds a system like this could be implemented tweaked and put out in front for all supportes to see and recognise, eactly where each player ranks. This immediatley and instantly stops the behind the scenes payments in any form that influence a player on their next club. This is truely a fair salary cap when set up and thought out properly.
Agreed, the salary cap has never worked. Why the NRL persists with this despite all the problems this has caused is beyond me. All it has done is promote unfairness, which is exactly the opposite to what it was intended to do.
I like your points system, but you would need to be careful with rep players. The points would need to be on a rolling scale since the last time they played rep football. Say for instance a player makes a rep team as a junior but then sustains a serious injury which lessens his ability (say multiple ACL injuries). Because he is a former rep player his points stay at 750, but he is competing on the market against players on 500 points. Maybe 100 game players come in on the 750 points and that would even things up a little.
"Reputational damage can take years, maybe decades, to resolve. People on here still have an issue with James Hardie as a sponsor, even though their issues were, what, 30+ years ago now? That's how l;ong it can take for reputational damage to be…"

I admit it is annoying that the only time Paul Kent mentions it is when it involves Ricky Stuart, his mate.
How is back ending contracts a rort ?

What you get when commenting in a waiting room. Front loading 😂, BA has melted my brain. I meant back load , but ya know what I meant .
