We coud be at least be 2 or 3 wins further up if we had some more astute work from the coach. Although many on here rave about Ryles - and personally I like him and the things he is trying to do - he is making as many rookie errors as any of the players.

What does "astute" mean? It means tactically aware, understanding weaknesses, communicating clearly and applying all the correct resources available.

One of the obvious things last night was that Ryles overplayed Moses role - we became so predictable. We need more tactical adaptibiity and creativity.

Farnsworth sat defensively on Moses when ever he went to the blindside he loves. Just about every set Moses got his hands on the ball (nothing wrong with that) but every time the variation was negligible. There had to be room for shorter kicks as well as the perenial long ones. Not once did Moses really take a run. Were there occasions he could have lifted the pace? Could Moses sometimes be used as a dummy with a point of attack coming from somewhere else?

Are we contestng the ball enough? Having your kicker back is one thing, but at no stage did we get into a position to really challenge the receiver. On the odd occasions we did, we did not contest the kick. It seems the players are under instructions to stand next to the receiver and hope he drops the ball. I do not understand this non contested kicks. The same applies with the drop outs and in some cases defensively where they allowed the attacking side to make the mistake. That's fine when it works, but bloody awful if it doesn't. Perhaps, it is in part the fear of being penalized or sin binned? It's an areas that is undermining us.

Another issue is Ryles' selections.

Matterson should have been playing last night and he would have provided a completely different drive from the "pigs". I thought Junior tried hard but he was a bit out of sorts, almost like him needing to be prodded to get moving (herding cattle). Nothing wrong with Hopgood and Williams games, they are the workers in the pack and the people on here do not understand that or more the point appreciate it.

Russell is honest as the day is long, just a second grader filling in and he stops progress by not creating anything. Does him being solid actually weaken our game?

This game was there for either team to win on the night. Unfortunately, it was a flick of the coin and we lost.

One final thing: people need to get over the constant BA bashing. The guy has gone. But it seems that anything the side does badly is laid on his shoulders. The other things we need to understand are that its fine to have plenty of money to spend, but unless the people we want want to come to Parramatta and play for us, then they won't come! Build it and they will come, selections and poor communication with players is not part of building anything. There are players in Reserve Grade that are going well that are not geting a look in, there are players in first grade that seem to being favoured, I don't no why?

        • My biggest issue with NRL is it's open embrace of gambling outlets. The blanjket broadcast and normalisation of bookie odds during NRL games integrates gambling and the game in the minds of the young.

To me, this amounts to grooming our children....preparing the ground to allow for later exploitation.

Why do we, as parents and grandparents, allow this on our watch?...it was not always like this, in the past we recognised the harm, and acted at a societal level to mitigate it. We still know the harm, but the money has spoken....youth and integrity(gambling incentivizes corruption) be fucked.

          • Yes Randy  I have a nearly 4 year old. Very critical period in his life in establishing the way he sees things. He used to watch programs like the wiggles and other kids entertainment type programs. I have now got him watching a kids educational channel for toddlers to about 10 year Olds . The you tube channel is called  Learn bright. I have him watching programs for 5 and 6 year Olds to try and push his boundaries up a few levels. He is responding well to that. Hopefully he will become addicted to a learning process rather than an entertainment one...

It seems silly having Governments spending heaps on Medical and social issues at the same time raking in money from people's addictions causing physical and mental issues.

            • yes but with respect Randy openly talks about the drugs he takes.....people have to learn from mistakes and choices they make.

              • Yeh,but nah.....Randy's Big Buds don't sponsor the NRL and I don't punch cones with kids

        • My dad had a pokie addiction in the 1970s mum read him the riot act and he went to a catholic weekend retreat and came back " cured"

only spends 40 bucks per week on lotteries now 😆😆

        • I am a gambler but never play poker machines other than being polite in an environment. Not my form of gambling Tad. Those disaster type of stories are well documented like many things in life. Just another way of losing.

Free Will is the key to our democracy, if you want to save  the world, the way to do it is not stopping people for whatever reason are the small enjoyments of their life. Socialism doesn't work, never has, never will. The world will always have the ills you recognise Tad but human beings have no more than their own survival in what ever environment they want to participate in.

The great philosophers you recognise and quote will be the first to tell you that. The key to our existence is evolution, your favourite philosopher will confirm that....he is a spiritist in essence as well.

You evolve by learning your mistakes, you cannot teach them that.

          • You probably remember your childhood from the 50s and 60,s Poppa life was much simpler. ( as kids we weren't probably aware of the nasties around the world) We were not exposed to so many things eg addictions to sugar, mass media influence s the way they are now, all sorts of plastic and environmental pollution  etc Kids played on the road, climber trees, built bush cubby houses, fished in local creeks, walked to school in safety etc That was all available  and with in Parramatta to Penrith where I used to live. Some people did it tough but local community engagement was much better.. I think in a way that we had a lot more freedom  then. I can,t remember divisions amongst people politically and economically as they are today... Have we really progressed that much as a society?  My wife recently went to Sydney for a few days and couldn't wait to get back home. Unfortunately we have been seeing massive migrations to the once quiet easy going North Coast. How have you settled in Brissy from Sydney

          • How does free will function correctly when you have been advertised to as a child, in this insidious, ,intergrated with the sport you love, manner?

Careful before you answer because we haven't been doing this for very long.

Horse racing exists SOLEY due to and for gambling.

This is not the case at all with rugby league, further we encourage our children to engage with  RL

      • Horse is scratched

I will get my daughter to get his tips next week for todays meeting.

        • You are vulnerable to addiction Tad. Do it to enjoy it by all means.
