Poppa's Corner; A Retirement package for MON

One of our wags on here suggested a way of getting rid of MON is retiring him.... a tongue in cheek suggestion may I say! I'm sure he can be sacked if required?

A retirement package or sacking  may not be necessary. We will still need  to find a replacement for him and frankly it is up to Ryles and the CEO to say we need more in the position of GM Football.

Hard to argue with that need face value, me as a past supporter of MON having suggested previously that I am surprised he still  with us.

I have also thought in recent times that he has been kept because he had a focus on the total scene, grade and junior developments,

Interesting in the sense that everyone rubbishes him on his negotiating ability. We really cannot judge him on that, as it is subjective. Many on here will say he can be judged and he has failed.

Frank the Tank made a defence for him based that it is a hard job if your hands are tied. We won't argue that one with Wiz but I do not hold him totally responsible and the so called abject failure's of R&R, LB made the point that our recent signings and success gives him a success that has not been aknowledged.

Just to throw another opinion in......How's this sound?

I wonder if we should get someone like an ex or current player manager just to do contract negotiations and leave MON with the overview football role. Once they agree on who they want let the assigned Head Hunter  can go after the target..... and/or have the same person quietly make it known who we don't want. It can be a totally different player management philosophy.

Maybe we can loan juniors/development players to Perth or  PNG  on the same basis that Melb seem to do it. Also it is someone who can monitor who is after our juniors and what defences do we have to combat and manage them.

This type of role fundamentally doesn't necessarily sit as an automatic for a good General Manager Football and maybe this ancillory management role is a good way to go.

    • You mean O'Sullivan who signed DylBro for $13m LOL.

      • Yep that's the guy.

Have a look at that Dolphins roster him Bennett & Woolf have done a decent job there talent wise.

        • Much easier to recruit top talent when the coach is Bennett and you have lots of money to spend with no baggage.

Let's see how he goes @Newcastle.

          • It's not that easy they missed on a lot of top tier talent.

Ponga Munster Brown and others said no to Bennett but they still ended up with a spine of Hammer Katoa Nikorima and JMK.

There are pretty deep roster depth and talent wise even though they never got any top tier guys.

  • I didn't defend him, all I said was, in this example he isn't solely to blame. Simply because he didn't have access to the cash that Gus had to entuce Lachie away from the Eels.

We could've offered a million and I reckon it still wouldn't be enough. These 3rd party deals can't be proven but we know without a doubt that's what gone in here.

If we can't re-introduce 3rd party deals then whenever a gun player becomes available then we will always miss out. You could have God himself handling the negotiations but you simply won't land these guys without the hidden enticements.

    • MON is still shit IMO but in this instance no one would've got him over here without the 3rd parties...

      • There are the teams that know how to work the TPA system and those that dont.

While we are one on the teams that dont we wont win any signing battles unless we pay massive overs.

      • Thanks Heisen good to see your supporting him, even though you kicked him in the guts 3 times why he was down, but yes you saw the good side of him as well, hear you only kicked him twice there.

Helping him up was also a fine gesture but letting down the air in his wheelchair was a bit rough. Luckily Wiz was there with his pump, I hear he did not feel so bad after Wiz withdrew it from his arse.

  • Can we really praise him for getting the likes of Williams, Iongi etc? JR would have had a major say in that. Also I felt for all those players, we were the only team going after them. Even Lomax. So I am yet to see our RR team sign a player when others teams are competing with us. Thats why I do not rate them at all. No point having the talent identification if you cant convince the big ones to join.

    • @EA, I think you will find that every selection will source back to Ryles EA, whether that is sourcing or approving and to repeat myself that is what happens I believe. Mons probably does the paper work and detail after everything is negotiated by Ryles and the CEO /them.
