How good is it to see the Bengals make the Superbowl. Yes, I am a long time Bengals fan so it is especially sweet to see them make the SB as I never thought I would see that in the distant future.
But, it shows how the NFL have got it right when it comes to a draft system which allows teams who are struggling on the field to become successful, so long as they don;t mismanage the system. The Bengals were 2-14 only 2 yearsw ago. But two drafts later after having the #1 and #5 overall picks and some shrewd signings in the free agency they have put themselves in this position.
I really wish the NRL would grow a set and set up a draft system for new players, similar to the NFL or the AFL. That way struggling clubs can take advantage and clubs like the Roosters just can't get away with paaching players developed by other clubs year in, year out.

Well yes but shows importance of coaching also, turn back time 10 years and the Cincinnati Bengals and St. Louis Rams as they were called then were considered to be a basketcase of a backroom staff, St. Louis were average to below average where Cincinnati were decent but could not win a single playoff game.
Fast forward 10 years, St. Louis/LA 2nd super bowl under their current Head Coach (and different QB each time mind you) and Cincinnati first super bowl in close to 40 years with a young coach but a coach that built them up, plus Zac Taylor (Benglas HC) was under Rams coach (Sean McVay) in LA learning a thing or two to go to Cincinnati.
But i just think it shows that yes backroom staff is important and can screw things up but maybe it is the coaches in building too that are not that good, we hear it all the time in the NRL coaches are hard done by its the board etc.
Granted different leagues and ways things are ran, but still food for thought.
I think it would be fair to say that there is a lot of luck involved in the draft. Tom Brady, one of the best ever, was picked in round 6. Aaron Rodgers, was taken with pick 24 in the first round. In fact in the last 20 NFL drafts, only 3 number 1 picks have gone on to win the Super Bowl. Moral of the story, getting the #1 pick is no guarantee of future success.
Yeah but also it is very highly proven that a high percentage of players past the 3rd round are out of the league in 5 years, roughly 80%
No its not, but it's still better than the situation we have now.
Absolutely getting a number one (or top 5) pick doesn't guarantee success. Just look at the Jets and Sam Darnold. But it does increase the chances of success, provided the front office don't mess it up.
I was bummed my Chiefs lost.
Go the Rams. Smash those kittens.
At half time I thought the Chiefs were just gonna put them to the sword, but credit to Joe Burrow, he started throwing it a bit more on 1st down, and their defensive line finally put some pressure on Patrick Mahomes. Even wonderboy is fallible under pressure.
The NFL have it right in most ways... imagine if BA had 2 coaches challenges against the Panthers last year? We'd have been playing another week.
Of course the constant delays are a bit annoying.
Congrats on the Bengals making it to the big dance. They've been so good to watch this season. Good luck for the SB.
100% agree, Brissy. A teams season ends on the flip of a coin, like the Bills last week against KC. Absolutely shithouse.
Agree with your solution, or even just play the full 15mins OT and the winner at the ends wins.
A lot of people involved in the game calling for a change there, hopefully they listen.
Agreed re: OT. I don't know why they can't go back to the old rule where if a team scored on the very first drive in OT, the defending team had one drive to have an opportunity to level or win the game. That made far more sense and the ridiculous notion that they had to get rid of that rule for 'player welfare' purposes is a croc.
