The New South Wales Rugby League has honoured the VB Blues junior players from the Holden State of Origin campaign at the second Brad Fittler Medal awards night, held on Tuesday evening at Sydney’s La Montage function centre.
The awards paid tribute to the significant contribution volunteers make to Rugby League as well as acknowledging award winners from the League’s competition.
The Pirtek Parramatta Eels congratulate Michael Doolan, who has been recognised for his talent and dedication to rugby league.
Rising talent Doolan received the ‘Kari Aboriginal Resources NSW Under 16s Indigenous Player of the Year’.
Doolan is a name to remember in the future, a member of the winning NSW Indigenous Under 16s match at All Stars.
Doolan also made the NSW Under 16s winning side before State of Origin I this year, along with assisting Parramatta win back-to-back Harold Matts finals, and the National Under 16s titles this year.
Under 16’s Coach Chris Hutchinson has had the pleasure of coaching Michael for the past two years, and could not contain his pride for young star when he heard the news.
“Michael has had a fantastic season this year; he does some amazing things on the field you could not imagine. There’s this recognisable spark which you don’t see in many players," he said.
“He’s a terrific kid and I think he definitely has potential to be a household name in NRL in the future.”
The Brad Fittler Medal has become one of the big ticket events on the Rugby League Calender, confirmed by the response from sponsors, clubs and fans.
"Brad Fittler is involved with our organisation from Origin right down to a Junior League level," NSWRL Chief Executive, Mr David Trodden said.
"Freddy was one of our greatest players in the sky blue jersey but his work off the field continues to prove how much of an asset he is to the game."
Congratulations to Michael for his achievements!

I mentioned in another blog earlier this week, that Doolan won a club semi-final last week almost off his own bat. He's an amazing talent, and it will be interesting to watch how far Doolan and his halves partner Troy Dargan can go together, because they're both exceptional talents.
u just wait n c when they will leave us it all way happen to us we can find rise them but we cant keep them
Can't believe I missed this, what a great achievement for one of our young ones. He's been great for the Eels in the Harold Mats and hopefully he can keep on that winning tradition all the way to First Grade for the Eels along with his partner in crime Troy Dargan. Both of these boys suit each other so well and I'd say if they keep progressing with their attack the way they are they will be one of the best halves pairings the NRL have ever seen they compliment each other so well and know each others game really well now too. Also if they have Tramontana and Layoun in the spine they will go very far, all NSW boys too so that's good to note and we've also got Tepai Moeroa, Joey Lussick and Tyrell Fuimaono also all still young which should make for some awesome years for the Eels in years to come.
A friend of mine who watches the junior games reckons the kids from 14-17 are the best he has seen in over 20 years. Hopefully we can hang on to these kids.
Parra does have a future, it's with these up and coming juniors, well done Michael….
Good to see Doolan excelling so well. This caps off a great, great season for him.
Hopefully it's just the start of better things to come for him & we can see him excel even further at all levels of rugby league.
Last year for the Under 14's development instead of picking the normal way we actually looked at players over the entire year and it has reaped rewards with them being regarded as the best group that have come through and they were so good that they kept the squad together until late August when they were supposed to finish in July.
One player I'm told to watch out for is Joseph Tagga Anae. He's a 5/8 now but he was a winger, centre previously so he has the speed and apparently he's a natural in the halves.
Congrats, Michael.
