Chiefy asked me to do something along these lines, and I couldn't resist his charms for once. I will list here under a starting point and update it as the week goes on.

Getty Images: Al Riffa is one of the favorites will make his Australian debut in the Melbourne Cup, but is heavily weighted, and can he adapt immediately to the firmer and faster Australian conditions over softer Irish grounds like his trainer and team have done for other Melbourne Cup winners?

Current Market

On race day there will be 24 starters subject to late scratcings. The field will be finalised on Saturday night and you will have all your SWEEP information when you wake up Sunday Morning.

I might add that this blog is live, anyone and everyone can put their 2 bobs worth or ask any questions. This information could be completely different by the close of Saturdays Race Meetings, so DO NOT commit to anything yet.

    • In terms of greatness WINX is my all time best.

BUT My favourite Racehorse ever and I had a scrap book on him....was called BLACK ONYX

He was a Tommy Smith trained sprinter who won the 1968 SIRES PRODUCE (group 1) NEWMARKET HANDICAP 2nd 1969 WON in 1970, 2 DOOMBEN 10000's 69/70 2nd in a DOOMBEN CUP 1969, WON a LIGHTNING (group 1 Flemington 1970, 2nd in the FUTURITY in 1970, CF ORR  Group 1 1971....placed in the DONCASTER 1970

Tommy Smith rated him in the top 10 sprinters of all time....went to USA and won the PHOENIX GOLD CUP.

      PS He was a gelding

      • Any starters?

        • Yep. Send me the details Pops of EXACTLY what I need to do to follow your top 4 placings. What form do I use at the TAB etc. If that is a better chance at 1 miliion than Lotto than I am in.

          • Mark, I think the best way to approach it is to open an account. With either the TAB or a Corporate Bookmaker. The biggest and most popular would be Sports bet or Ladbrokes. You can try also Palmer bet, you will find them easy to deal with, The bigger players are less personable.

They need do a full identification on you, but ring your "choice" and they will lead you through it. Thinking aloud Palmer bet would be good, you can deposit using Paypal. Download the App and go through the joining process.

You will receive 100% deposit match in bonus bets, they have a deal at the moment to deposit up to $150 they will match your deposit with bonuses i.e. put in $10 up to $150 and they will match dollar for dollar. You need to turn that money over to be able to withdraw it. Tricky little blighters but they are in business like anyone else "eyes open". How much you are prepared to lose is the first question before deciding how much to deposit.

Fill in your joining app and then ring them, tell them you have not done this before and to hold your hand to put the bet on. The format once established is pretty straight forward when placing your bet. i.e fill in the boxes....that said if you are still confused, talk to them and tell ask for some hand holding.

Do this today, tomorrow will be chaos,

I have not replied to you personally as I thought this information could be informative to others who maybe scared of the process,

As an alternative to this, go to your local pub tab and take a print out of the bets you want to make and ask the girl/boy to place your bets.

Good luck mate and I will text you to look at this on the site.

Good luck and I hope I haven't led you down a path of gambling........Just remember when punting, only be prepared to lose what your comfortable with and also the "more you think you know, the less you actually do".

PS You will never win betting like you can with lotto but you are making your own decisions and in that sense, partly in charge of your destiny. Karen had $1 each way on Knights Choice last year and received $170 for the win portion. She is much smarter than me BUT she did marry me, so she knows what pain is! LOL

PS 2 ....I think Palmer Bet were a sponsor of Parra at one stage, tell them you are from 1EE and they should reconsider sponsoring again, as we have many members. You can also use this app for betting on other sports i.e. NRL, Cricket etc.

    • Favourite horses were a couple of Welter Class horses that ran every other week in Sydney in the 70s. Western Yarn and Butch Cassidy. They were good for a get out in the last most weeks.

Gunsynd was definitely a favourite, Luskin Star, Octagonal and Lonrho, then Winx ...nowadays not so much favourite horses as better investments than others

      • Butch Cassidy always finished strong. Trained by Brian Mayfield Smith at 25/1 at Rosehill on a Saturday- was a good payday.
