Nobody actually hates Matterson as a person. It's what happens in the inner sanctum as a team when a player did what he'd done. His decision drove down standards at the club. He as one of the leaders at this club doing that, there could be nothing worse for comradely and he set one of the worst examples ever.

No way on Earth would Matterson have sat out if it was contract year or if Origin selection was hinging on those games.
