Given I spent much of the night jumping around like a crazy person, I don't think I'm going to add much value to the club's report. I'll post an analysis when I watch the game on replay.

The Pirtek Parramatta Eels have rediscovered their attack, scoring 36 points in their Monday night match against the Cowboys, finishing as 36-24 winners at Parramatta Stadium.

The Eels started the game in all too familiar fashion, unable to turn attacking opportunities into points. Ball handling by both sides was atrocious but neither backed down from throwing the ball around.

The Cowboys were given first points by the referee when Johnathan Thurston took on the line and threw a pass that looked unmistakably forward to Willie Tonga as he was falling to the ground.

However justice was served when Carl Webb dropped the ball from the kick-off. Deep in the Cowboys’ half the Eels finally broke the line through Jeff Robson who demonstrated an impressive step to score. Luke Burt converted to bring up another milestone – his 500th career goal.

In the 33rd minute the ‘Hayne Train’ came to life when an offload from Matt Keating created space for Jarryd Hayne to show his explosive speed, outpacing Matt Bowen on a 50-metre run to the line. However Keating went down awkwardly in the tackle, injuring his neck, and was taken to hospital for precautionary X-Rays.

He scored his second five minutes later when the Eels were back in the Cowboys’ 20. Robson hoisted a bomb midfield and when Bowen could not clean it up, Hayne grabbed the ball and dodged his way over the line.

The Eels stretched the lead to 24-6 before halftime when they went the length of the field from the kick-off. A strong run by Tim Mannah set up some space on the Eels’ right side and Joel Reddy and Krisnan Inu passed back and forth before Inu scored.

After halftime Parramatta kept up the points, this time an in-goal bungle between Bowen and Thurston leaving the ball open for Reddy to pounce on and score.

Luck then turned against Parramatta when a deflection from a kick off an Eels player led to points for Arana Taumata.

Two excellent passes from Thurston led to tries for Tonga and Will Tupou in the 60th and 70th minutes respectively to bring the Cowboys within reach of the Eels’ lead.

However that was punctuated by Hayne’s hat-trick, this time the fullback using his power to get past four Cowboys defenders.

PARRAMATTA EELS 36 (Jarryd Hayne 3, Jeff Robson, Krisnan Inu, Joel Reddy tries; Luke Burt 6 goals) NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS 24 (Willie Tonga 2, Arana Taumata, Will Tupou tries; Johnathan Thurston 4 goals)at Parramatta Stadium. Crowd: 11,117.

  • I just saw the boys in the sheds and they told me to pass on to all you Eels fans out there that Hindy hasn't backed the Eels for a win this week so it's in the bag. In the words of the great man himself " I tried backing Hindmarsh last week and I got smashed I'm never going to back him again ". I haven't ever known Hindy to talk about himself in the third person so I get the sense that things are different in the Eels camp this week. The Ken walked out of the dressing room for the first time in weeks thinking they really do believe in themselves and I feel a big win for the boys is on the cards.

    • Aren't you speaking in third person yourself? In parts, anyway lol
  • Great last 15mins of the 1st half Parra 24-6 halftime.
The floodgates openned when Mannah came on.
MK has a nick injury lets hope it's not serious.
    • he is shithouse
  • Awesome win but our fitness seems pretty bad considering how tired we were in the 2nd half.
  • No he isn't. Shithouses are useful, Wright is not.
  • B Smith injured hamstring, Robson badly corked arm, M Keating neck injury - we did pretty well to hang on.
  • Improved effort, still a lot to work on however.

Have to say I feel sorry for the Cowboys fans, seeing nuffies like Graham, Webb, and Rovelli on your team list every week must really suck.

Honestly Rovelli makes Mortimer look like a superstar with the ball in hand. I started to cheer every time they gave him the ball because he kept butchering everything.
    • What the hell did Rovelli even play? I really do not remember seeing him once.
  • Wow, what a difference when the halves go forward instead of sideways, turn a few balls inside and suddenly our outside men, and in particular, Jarryd has space. It seriously is not rocket science. I was saying today to Daneel, it's not like we even need to create overlaps - we just have to create enough room to put Hayne one-on-one.
