There's been plenty of criticism aimed at the Parramatta Eels lately for not securing Lachlan’s signature, but honestly, it's a huge positive that we didn’t make a knee-jerk decision to sign Michael Maguire.

Let’s be real—Madge has won just one of his last six, and his Donkeys are being flogged at Brookvale with a star-studded lineup. The signs aren’t great. There are already rumblings coming out of the Broncos camp about his intense style, and one player has already been shown the door.

It’s really starting to look like we dodged a bullet.

Meanwhile, Jason Ryles has done a far better job so far—working with a squad full of development players and dealing with key injuries in crucial positions. And yet, the effort and attitude have been spot on.

Go Rylsey!

  • But chief... those that hate MON were saying  how he fucked up by not been able to get Madge and was  another missed signing

*disclaimer I think MON is shit , but sick of certain posters who constantly bash MON

    • Yes, Mark O'neill was heavily involved in getting Ryles.

    • I'll bite - I never wanted Madge, I didn't really have a preference between Ryles or Hannay as both were unproven. Ryles has shown good stuff so far in these early days.

BUT this idea that MON isn't terrible because he's done a few things that have worked...this narrative is just bad.

Our GM of Football shouldn't be just getting a few right, a stopped clock is right twice a day. He should be getting wins on the board left, right and centre. When we go after a coach (eg Bennett) we should get the signature. When we go after a player (eg Galvin) we should get the signature. When we try to retain a player (eg Brown) we should get the signature.

Trying to distract from the litany of failures that MON has racked up by pointing to the odd win he's had doesn't cut it. The evaluation of MON as an objective failure in his position is completely warranted.

      • 💯

      • Fmd. How many times am I going to say Galvin was never coming here.?

When Galvin asked for a release midway through 2024, what makes you think he wanted to come to parramatta when Dylan was the 6.?

        People just can't comprehend

        • I heard Kieran Foran was never coming here either but wiz bang boom he arrived.

JR by the sounds of things thought he had a good shot of  getting Galvin here.

Maybe JR didn't serve up the same food at there meeting BAs wife did that got Lomax over the line lol.

          • Lomax actually came because he knew Ryles would arrive.

The notion that he signed because he wanted to play under bushie if farcical.  Brad had already applied for centerlink and his papers were marked.

Two weeks later he was sacked, and ever man,  reporter  and his dog knew he would be out the door,.

Also, Lomax and Ryles are from the same town and were great friends previously. Any clown could see Lomax didn't come here because of Bush Arthur and sons.

            • Chief, Lomax pointed out in an interview a big reason he came to the Eels was to play with Moses. Whatever the reasons, he's a beast we can be proud of.

I know some here throw poo bombs at the club 24/7, but fair dinkum some credit must go to the club as well. Not just BA.

Also, Ryles' R&R and development has been promising - Iongi, the Fox, Wiliams, Kautoga, Little Pap, Samrani, Smith. Even Moretti and Hawkins seem to have improved. Moses admitted he's learnt a lot of Ryles as well.  Ryles has surpassed my expectations to date. And I was very anti-rookie, initially.

The club is now aligned. Thicker-skinned to external noise. The finger pointing and blame game rubbish is gone with Ryles who is club first. As long as that remains, there is hope.

If we continue improving and repairing the relationships we cocked up - in our spiteful, dysfunctional, self poo-bombing past - we could see even more improvement on the R&R front down the track.

              • Yes I understand that hoe. But don't forget Moses has been very vocal around what Ryles has brought to the team, even saying he's learnt more in the past few months,  than he has in many years.

I'm just having a go at the people constantly pushing crap on our administration, and throwing bs at them for not securing Galvin who was never coming.   Coryn was the person who started the BA argument lol.  Go BA

                • Chief, I know mate. You're "fighting the good fight" as administrators often say. The greats of the game such as Cronk and Cameron Smith are also Club-first, leave your ego at the door types. They know that's what you need for success.

But many things are out of our control - such as what people think, feel, say and do. It is what it is - it's also just nature.

The main thing is the club is united and thick-skinned to noise and wise-ing up. As long as that remains facing the storms and uncontrollables along the way, I have hope.
