There's been plenty of criticism aimed at the Parramatta Eels lately for not securing Lachlan’s signature, but honestly, it's a huge positive that we didn’t make a knee-jerk decision to sign Michael Maguire.

Let’s be real—Madge has won just one of his last six, and his Donkeys are being flogged at Brookvale with a star-studded lineup. The signs aren’t great. There are already rumblings coming out of the Broncos camp about his intense style, and one player has already been shown the door.

It’s really starting to look like we dodged a bullet.

Meanwhile, Jason Ryles has done a far better job so far—working with a squad full of development players and dealing with key injuries in crucial positions. And yet, the effort and attitude have been spot on.

Go Rylsey!

            • We got a big one on the hook here lads a whopper lol.

Nevermind that the best player by miles was here a long time ago imagine if the last coach hadn't left him where we'd be.

Its true he's added all this talent yet where are we running again what 15th or something woohoo let's jump up n down fark your standards  are low ahahaha

            • Lomax was already signed and delivered.I think you'll find the club had Bennett as there #1 choice Bellamy as the #2 then 3rd on the podium was JR.

No disgrace there but the fact of the matter is we settled because we couldn't get who we really wanted that's just where we are as a club.

All you are chief is some spoilt little brat who was on Bennetts knob but since the club missed you jumped on anyone that wasn't the last coach.

              As per rent free.

              • It was worth a crack, but even if we had Cameron, the Holy Trinity and Lord Krishna, Bennett is his own man.

Despite admiring Jack & Massey, Bennett stated he's never really seriously considered Parra in his entire three-decade plus coaching career.  If poo-bombers don't get that, a sledgehammer would be next to useless.

Personally, my concern with Bennett was always - what happens after his 2-3 years? He's not exactly concerned about what happens to a club after "his job" is done. His attitude is - it's got nothing to do with me. He's a quick fix, but a great coach. Great with players. One of the greatest.

The good thing about Ryles is he seems Club-first. A Culture-builder. And potentially he could be a career coach for us. I don't know if that'll happen though - it's early days. But a stable, Club-First Smith type to ground us and care about the whole club not just his "job" I feel is what we need.

              • All in can say is im glad we dodged Bennett aswell, because above all our culture had to change.  Bennett wouldn't have shown Gutherson the door and not have a focus on development.

Ryles saw what a slime bag Gutherson was and drew a line through his name well before any other player.

                • That's the problem though isn't it the club saw Bennett as the answer. They didn't dodge a bullet Bennett turned them down.

Can you see the pattern here.

Anytime we seemingly go big game hunting we miss. This has to change amongst a few other things if we are a hope of doing anything.

  • We didn't want Madge, we said he was too close to BA and he wanted us to wait til after Origin til he would interview we said we cannot wait anyway. It was also referenced that after we missed on Bennett and supposedly Bellamy, we wanted to go with someone new that is why we looked at Ryles and Hannay.

Can't dodge a bullet when you weren't interested int he first place. I like Madge but he is about 3 decades too late. Had he coached in 80's and 90's he would be an all time great. He was the coach Brisbane needed but also he was too hard too fast. They needed a Ricky Stuart type, hard but also can put his arm around you and look after you at the same time. Madge is 110% all the time, too much too fast. Had he taken over from Melbourne it would be better as they go hard a lot as it is.

Ryles is the new age coach, like Ciraldo, Webster, Fitzgibbon. Bit of hard nose about them, bit of tactic but also have great support staffs, happy to lean on others for ideas and are great with players.

  • But but but we need "TOUGH" and "TOUGHGHGH" and "KICK UP THE BACKSIDE SO WE RUNRUNRUN". So we are not SOFT FUCKERS. And we can be TOUGH!!!

Did I say we need to be TOUGHHHH!!!!

    • Madge seems like a  Rep Coach for now. He can galvanise a set of players for a month or two but over a season everyone just has enough of him.

He won a Prem like 12 years ago. If that what matters let's go get Tim Sheens.

    • Who respects a kick up the arse tough guy leader? People don't learn ,can't focus, or will give 100% in a nasry environment .If someone respects you, you respect them.

  • i'd say we dodged a bullet with Bennett as well and that may be controversial but he would've kep gutho and rcg, would've brang over Hubner and Aitken. We probably are in the 8 with bennett right now but our future would be fcked

"Best thing he did was run a ball out from our in-goal. Was a great run, after that he was barely a pass mark for a 900kish ,5/8.

He had a bit of a dig though , yes , compared to weeks gone by."

"It's still very relevant as to how the actual cap is spent.  It probably needs to have an addition to the blueprint saying you also need someone smart and connected at your club. "
