It's been revealed that West tigers Jerome Luai,  is free to negotiate with other clubs from Nov 1 this upcoming season.

After signing a 5 year deal with the Tigers,  it's been revealed that West tigers ceo Shane Richardson ticked off on the deal that could see Luai playing for another team just two years into his mammoth 6 million dollar Tigers deal.

Good luck Tigs.

Sen radio reported -

If the Tigers walk away with another wooden spoon he might want to exit the club. If I'm the Wests Tigers I'm trying to re-negotiate and get that clause out. This time next year he'll actually be a free agent and there will be more teams lining up for Jarome Luai than there were this year."

Commentator Andrew Voss added: :"If I was the Tigers at the very least, I think it should have been three (years guaranteed) plus two (options). You have to lock in for three years working with teammates and blokes coming through. You've got an 18-year-old half with you (Lachie Galvin). I would like to see three years of Jarome Luai locked in

  • It certainly will be interesting to see how Luai goes without the might of Penrith behind him. He seems to have his doubts as well!

  • well played by Luai

gives himself option to negotiate higher even whether things go bad or not considering we will have a png and probably a wa team in next couple of years

    • Then end up at the Roosters in 2027 after earning over 2 mil

  • Just wow...did Richo and MON graduate from the same business school??lol the art of the option!haha

  • Haha, no surprises that two clubs with these crazy clauses finished at the bottom of the table. Players aren't buying into the commitment long term .

  • The player needs guarantees if he's not happy and the club needs top line players, Luai was always holding the cards he just needed to name his price and how many years.

  • Benji is a massive key to this. If he is sacked Luai might go. Marshall has awe, plus still unknown as a coach. Oddly enough, I think Marshall is holding them back.

  • Boy we copped it for our contracts with Moses & Brown. But to be fair to the Tigers I'm sure Laui will honour his contract. Now if the club is still a basket case in 2025 2026 & nothing has changed, of course he would look at going to another club. But, with this clause the Tigers get  their man, Laui gets a nice upgrade win win.

  • These contracts are destabilising for the club. He hasn't even hit the traiining paddock as. a Tiger and his future is already being spoken about.

Wait until 12-18 months time when expansion teams are looking for a marqee signing. If Blaize doesnt develop / Roosters have no 6...  etc there'll be story lines everywhere about Luai having clauses and it will drive the news cycle. Its garbage and takes away from the comp and what clubs are trying to do.  James Hooper makes a living off drawing lines between off contract players and openings at clubs.. Tigers don't need it just like we don't need it with Mitch and Dylbags.

    • Conehead is pretty outspoken when it comes to contracts and the eels...I doubt he has much to say.
