If the opportunity rises to perhaps move on from players that are leaving in 2023, would you do it and at what costs? Do we think if the Eels can get another hooker early they would get them and let Mahoney leave? Get a good forward and let Niukore leave? same with Papali'i?
Put it simply do we think Parramatta can afford a chance to let a top target go for next year? example Sam Verrills, let's say we are after him and he is a top target to replace Mahoney. Realistically it is looking for 2023. Now say Smith is booted to the Roosters early, Sydney City would need to let go talent before they can accept him i.e. Verrills.
Hypothically speaking let's say Verrills wants out and we are interested, having Mahoney still for 2022 do we say no to Verrills and let him move elsewhere for 2022 and beyond despite him being our top target? or do think to ourselves to get him when he is available and move Mahoney on and see what we get for him in exchange? Out of all the hookers linked Verrills is reported to be the first one that BA is interested in, where the rest have been offered to Parramatta. If Verrills became free to leave for 2022 would Parramatta simply say no as they do not need him for 2022 but 2023? it is hard to say.
Same for the others that are leaving, Parramatta like any club should only let their players leave early when there is a replacement ready. Now i know most fans would do this in a heartbeat but we are not playing Fifa where you transfer players at will and buy whoever you want, and Parramatta are not ones to go crazy in the open market like that, they view value before even considering a move.
What do we think? if Verrills came available will Parramatta go with Mahoney in 2022 no matter what or will they take an opportunity when given instead of risking for less in 2023?

But if options come available Coryn, would you take them or risk losing them and get other options for 2023?
I think if opportunity comes up to move on reed and get a good replacement go for it. The other 2 aren't on big money so they stay
Reed isn't on big coin either.
He's on more then the other two
Nothing is out of the question. If Verrills is the Eels top target and he is looking for a new contract starting 2022, it might be a smart move to look at bringing him in straight away rather than him signing elsewhere for 2 or 3 seasons. This would all hinge on what the plans are going forward. I don't think the club cab be rigid in it's aproach to the roster for next season and if the players leaving can be replaced by a good option then they need to consider it. A lot of us fans were pretty puked off with loosing certain players but that is the nature of the game so I look forward to seeing who we get and how they fit into the team.
The club can't afford to be as emotional as us fans are and they need to field the best team they can for the 2022 season as well as planning for life beyond. I hope we can lock down Junior Paulo and extend a few of the good juniors we have coming through but if the players that have signed elsewhere for 2023 and beyond get replaced early, then so be it.
I'll say one thing though - The Reed Mahoney backlash is going to get really ugly, really fast !
110%.
In what respect FH?
I was merely commenting on the fact that Reed, being one of the fans favourites will very quickly feel the wrath of the supporters.
He is going to have to have the season of his life because every mistake he makes, the fans are going to give it to him.
Hes 23 and he would never have experienced the Eels fans turning against him like they will.
It's really going to be hard. I remember when Jamie Lyon did his dog act and it was brutal.
As an Eels fan all I can say to young Reed is - you made your bed - bad luck.
Hope ennis doesn't cause eels to be penalised much too. Or hindy be frothing .
