‘I needed it’: Arthur reflects on Eels sacking

Leeds: Former Parramatta coach Brad Arthur says he’s a better coach now than the one who was sacked by the Eels last year, admitting it was time for both him and the club to go their separate ways.

“A lot of people said I looked relieved and happy, and I felt like I was at the time,” he said about his mid-season sacking

“I was grateful for the opportunity they gave me. Eleven years, it was a great life and my family got to live a great life. There were negatives with it, but there were plenty of positives with it. I wouldn’t change any of it at all. Probably there’s some lessons there that I maybe knew or some things that I knew I needed to change or got wrong. But sometimes you don’t make those until you get sacked or terminated.

“I’ve looked at it from a perspective of ‘it is what it is, I’ve had a good life and enjoyed it, but what can I learn from it’? So if I got any opportunities again moving forward, is there anything that I could do differently? But I feel a lot of that just comes with time and experience. You don’t learn from anything unless you make mistakes. It’s just making sure you don’t make them over and over.”

  • It would be interesting to hear what he thinks he did wrong,  i wonder if it would be the same as what we think he did wrong?.

  • I wouldn’t change any of it at all...What The Actual Fuck BA...either a stunning lack of  awareness and imagination or another example of why shit like this just isn't worth reading

    • I'm pretty sure he means he wouldn't " not " do his stint over again because of the way it finished.  The guy rebuilt our club from a stinking pile of dogshit , if it wasn't for a shit cunt GM of football and recruitment and some terrible luck with injuries , he would've kept us as a very competive team.  Yeah I agree he could most certainly done things different , there were plenty I didn't like about his coaching stint and some choices he made  , but I don't get why he gets so death ridden. There were some other parties equally to blame for our poor performances and they get spoken about like club immortals  .

He sounds like he's very grateful to the club. Their whole family have been die hard Eels fans for a couple of generations. Let it go.

      • I agree with you Wiz.

People act like BA won us 5 spoons and was the one responsible for our salary cap breach. Yes he was our coach for 2 seasons too long and made a couple of shit calls over those years. I was pissed with the JA selections and shit juniors once JA got inte FG. Players clearly got comfortable under him and he had favourites. He had his flaws for sure. I wanted him gone too. I am not saying he deserves to be adored etc. But far out he lives rent free in so many peoples heads. Did people want him sacked after making a GF lol?

BA took us from a wooden spoon team to a team that played finals game and even a GF. Lost the GF to Panthers dynasty. Big reasons we fell off after the GF was because of suspensions, injuries and recuirtment. 2 of them are out of his control. The third one he is only one person amongst a full RR team. Whilst our RR has improved ... guess what this problem still exists after he got sacked. So go figure who is more to blame.

        • Exactly mate, he's gone and recruiting and contract sagas still remain. He had a boss, that boss is supposed to be the guy calling the shots.  If he didn't agree with the JA / MA shit , it was his job to call it and supply us with better options . The reason it wasn't called is because like MON with his bosses , BA knew more than MON and he had to put his faith in his decisions ,  right up until MON was getting called out by the media , which unfortunately for Arthur coincided with his star player being out injured and us losing a bunch of games and BA was the scapegoat.

Had Moses not been out I can assure you that MON was a deadman walking as their relationship was untenable. Hence why he applied to go back to the Tigers.

BA , MON and Rogers ALL should've been shown the door at the same time.

  • Don't care about the Arthur's.

  • They all say the same shit. One thing he won't have at his next nrl job is getting multiple extensions like he did at parra. Imo he should of been sacked 2018 but anyway good luck to him
