Going forward and fulfilling our next level of Development.

I wrote this as a post on the other Blog I posted after the game.....Hopefully it outlines a thinking process that can take us on the next leg of the journey.

The pathways concept is something that is dear to me and I am pleased to see they addressing it now in a much more aggressive fashion i.e. special recruitment of senior coaches such as Nathan Brown (warriors) and other quality coaches within the development process.

Admistration is a key issue in this respect and where we are still learning.

Jim Saratinos is a obviously a smart man and was an ideal choice when he took over given the clubs renaissance and evolution away from the hideous regimes that preceded them.

There is nothing wrong with CEO being an accountant which is obviously Jim's qualified skills, I hope he is visionary enough as a leader but to evaluate his limitations in footie smarts. If he is not then the board has to assess his responsibilities with some imagination.

Now systemically I believe we have a problem in the heirachy, to have someone titled General Manager Football is a misnomer and not in keeping when you have a coach who is equal to the GM.

Now I see this as an organisational issue where as Mark O'Neill I think has done a great job as a football manager but is not empowered to be a true general manager.

The General Manager Football has to be a Gus Gould type or even a Burnie Gurr, someone that knows how to get down in the dirt and follow what is happening and reporting soley to the CEO and the Board.

Simply the General Manager Football is an executive, his  next reports are Manager Football who looks after the recruiting and pathways and the Head Coach looks after the playing matters.

So their is the best system for us to get pathways working, along with TPA's, private sponsorships and ways of maximising our overall objective......and you know what that is......well Pentith has just achieved it....

Whose your Daddy??

PS Head Coach is just that but with a coaching team under that with specific responsibilities. He becomes accountable to those issues.

This is a management philosophy at all levels and can be structured, but the structure has to have flexibility built into it. The nepotism type issues would never have arisen with a system like this in place.

  • Mate, our Pathways system is horrible and it's not improving any time soon.

We've now got Nathan Brown (the coach) overseeing our Junior development pathways. Respectfully, what the F does Nathan Brown know about junior development pathways? He's a failed NRL coach who is not an expert on junior development. He does not have extensive experience in this field. So why have we given him such a crucial role?

    • The best thing Mark O'Neil ever did was get punched out by Danny Williams , that and maybe negotiate a great " Down Down " dollar dazzler at Coles .  He was rejected by the worst football club organisation in the history of the NRL, and yet our club and its leaders think he's good enough for ours 😂.  The blokes a stooge of the highest order , but I guess when our descision makers are bean counters , token women and superfans , anyone who knows how to pump up a footy seems like a knowledgeable cunt.

      • Nice work Wiz, whats the name of the Titans coach again?

You see Wiz, Mark O'Neill captained a premiership winning NRL team and he has a degree in sports administration. he's done a pretty good job at Parra in my opinion.

Now someone like you who has sold icypoles to the Eskimos and know's a few people down at the Pub, well you are a fcuking expert.

I would like you do a course in basket making Wiz, one of the first things you will learn is you cannot put everything or one in the same basket......when you learn this, come back and we will talk about management skills and why you haven't any!

        • Yes pops, but you conveniantly failed to mention he got fired from his last job at the tigers for pulling his tally whacker out at a club function and waiving it around infront of fellow female club staff, which made that lady very uncomfortable.

I think thats a great insight into the smarts and professionalism of Mark, at his last job.

Obviously a professional guy with great judgement, just the sort of guy who would appeal to our club, the dreggs of the NRL have always appealed to us.

Just like Barrett and Cayless who are absolutely bottom of the barrell as far as ability and smarts go, both proven losers as coaches, and total uninspiring dead shits.

Both good blokes and nice guys, but neither could motivate a flea to jump and both have terrible energy and are very poor decision makers.

No doubt the club will bring back the king of delusion and mediocrity Timmy Mannah next, and put him in charge of the next gen.

          This clubs pathetic.

          • LOL Snakey, if pulling your tally wacker out is a criminal offence then you could not go to the corner store!

PS The club party was a Xmas party, surely on Jesus's birthday  the female club staff would understand that he was just showing them he was circumcised........that's circumcised Snakey where yours is circumstantial.....according to you very substantial, but you have been known to exagerate extensively.

"sack everyone that is not circumsised" except the women of course, not sure about Keet, does a lobotomy count?

    • Parraborn what knowledge do you have to make such a statement......what coaching background do you have?

You want to come on and make statements, I think you need to back them up with some substance.

      • Did I say I can do a better job? No, I didn't.

Unless you have some information about Nathan Brown's experience and expertise in junior development programs, feel free to share them. Fact of the matter is, he has never been employed in such a critical role at a NRL club.

I wish him all the success but why wouldn't we get someone to oversee our Juniors who has much more extensive experience in this field? Look at the Panthers. They did it off the back of Phil Gould. Although I despise Gus, he knows his stuff when it comes to development programs. He had proven knockledge before taking over this department in Penrith. Anthony Griffin is another one with extensive experience in this field. No surprise he worked at Penrith too, and Broncos (both clubs have great Juniors coming through).

Nathan Brown appointment just doesn't make sense to me.

        • Well Griffin actually started with a pathways process at Bronco's and his heritage sat there and was identified by Penrith (assume Gould). Matt cameron started the process at penrith and had a history with Easts and Parra. He is still there in an executive role.

He is the missing link we are try to find.

Now you obviously know fcuk all and since we are making assumptions, I am too assuming that someone like Mark O'Neill would have looked extensively at Nathan Brown's abilities and experiences before undertaking his appointment. I am again assuming O'Neill looked at number of candidates and that the fact that Nathan Brown is a failed NRL coach makes him no different to Trent Barrett as same but considered acceptable to be an assistant coach.

So Paraborn to go back to your original hysteria, you don't know and should keep your mouth shut to a simple statement of "hope" we can get our pathways right and then you can question Brown's qualification with also a degree of "hope".

Another assumption on my part would be with the experience Nathan Brown has had at a number of different clubs as a failed NRL coach is still much greater than you and I can adjudicate on. My futher guess is he has a pretty good understanding of what needs to be done and the judgements he makes will be viable in a sense of identifying talent.....something that is not always the case with well meaning but hopeless junior administrators with the ugly word of "nepotism" always raising its head.

Lets give the guy a chance of doing what he was appointed for before the likes of you try to cut him down at the ankles before he has "sang a tune".

        • Interesting comments you make about Gould being a genius when it comes to junior development pathways. But I'm scratching my head as to what else he had done in that field before going to Penrith with his 5 year plan. Reality is, Penrith always had the biggest and best available junior talent to draw from. Anyone could have gone in there with the funds that the club finally decided to invest in and done a stellar job.

Interesting to note that Gould failed at a similar role at the Warriors and the jury is still out on Canterbury.

          • He never got started at the Warriors because of the pandemic as when he was hired NZs borders were closed. I hate that he's at the Dogs because it's already a slugfest out west with us and the rest you can best believe he'll fix the Dogs.
