Officials from the Canterbury Bulldogs and Parramatta Eels have met with Lachlan Galvin and tabled offers of around $750,000 a season to the 19-year-old playmaker.

The Bulldogs and Eels held meetings with Galvin on Wednesday as he prepares to make a decision on his future as early as this weekend.

The offers from the powerhouse Sydney clubs are for considerably less than the salary Wests Tigers chief executive Shane Richardson was willing to pay Galvin when he prepared a contract upgrade and extension worth close to $6 million over five years. It’s believed the offers from Parramatta and Canterbury are for a shorter duration.

Galvin’s decision to turn down Richardson’s offer and potentially accept $3.5 million less to move across town speaks to his frustration with his development at the Tigers.

The Tigers have attached a transfer fee of close to $165,000 to Galvin’s release before November 1 – a sum Parramatta and Canterbury are willing to pay. It is considerably less than the fee of close to seven figures the Tigers initially sought to impose.

The Bulldogs have long maintained a strategy of only signing players who want to play for the club. Sources with knowledge of the situation talking on the condition of anonymity told the Herald Galvin has a strong desire to play under Cameron Ciraldo at the Bulldogs.

Increasing the appeal of the Bulldogs is Galvin’s relationship with assistant coach Luke Vella, a close friend and Galvin’s former high school teacher.

Galvin has also struck up a relationship with Parramatta halfback Mitchell Moses, who has been in the playmaker’s ear about joining the Eels to wear the No.6 jersey set to be vacated by Dylan Brown when he joins Newcastle on a record $13 million deal next year.

Galvin’s future at the Bulldogs wouldn’t be as straightforward, with Matt Burton the incumbent five-eighth at Belmore. Galvin’s potential arrival would all but end Toby Sexton’s time at the club and put Ciraldo in a position where he has to develop a No.7 from within.

Galvin last month informed the Tigers of his desire to depart at the end of his contract, which runs until the end of 2026.

Parramatta haven’t hidden their desire to lure Galvin, a childhood Eels supporter. Parramatta coach Jason Ryles sees hims as the ideal replacement for Brown.

“I made my [interest] clear a couple of weeks ago. That hasn’t changed, so we’ll wait and see what happens,” Ryles said. “The rule is you can’t negotiate until they get permission to, so until that happens we’ll keep our position there. Lots of strange things happen in footy [though], but we’ll make sure we do the right thing with the NRL.”

        • Could easily be wrong but haven't read anything that proves things have changed.

There was always going to be other bidders once Galvin became officially available.

Isaac Moses was always going to ensure he leverages any interest to get his client the best contract.

Galvin & Moses meeting with other clubs doesn't mean he's not Eels bound & his decision wasnt made weeks ago as you & plenty of others claimed from good sources.

Now Isaac uses the Bulldogs to drive Eels offer up to their maximum, then it's up to Lachie & it sounds like there's a lot more to all this than money.

Isaac has manipulated & aligned everything perfectly, and it all started just after the Dylan Brown news.

Unless Goulds pitch is all time, personally still believe you & Parapowa nailed this early on & he'll be at the Eels.

    • 💯 I love Gus love him.

He never takes the easy gig.

I mean the Dogs lucked into him and if not for Covid he'd have the warriors in the same position.

      • Ummm he took in the Dragons gig and took off as soon as he realised it was going to be tough. He then settled on doing a " reveiw " for them which was a disaster . He sacked an eventual 4 time premiership winning coach simply because they didn't see eye to eye on player selections, only for the club to go over Gus and hire Ivan back, their success followed them removing old pufferfish.  And now he's lobbed on the Dogs with an open chequebook, but yes I applaud his willingness to play ducks and drakes and do whatever it takes. I'll give him that , he's crafty .  He did turn the administration of Penrith around for the better.

He also was too gutless to take on a NSW Origin team that was obviously way short on talent and was up against the unbeatable Maroons , all whilst claiming to have all the answers in his commentary gig. He knew his reputation would take a torpedo if he took on that gig.,

Gus plays the game very well. But he ain't exactly the bloke who never shys away from the tough jobs.,Canterbury are well set up for a quick rebuild with their wealth of shady people behind the scenes ready to help out.  Dibs and Laundys could help you or I do the same at any club.

        • ol Pig head knows where to land and how to use his media gig for self serving purposes.  As for Ivan Cleary he just got lucky his offspring is a generational talent landed at Penrith when a group of youngsters who all came up together were primed (like us in the 80s with Jack Gibson) and just had to put the whip away down the straight.  What he did at the tigers and too their cap is still being felt now.....never rated him still dont...Ciraldo was the brains there

  • How old is Tatiana? Let's just blood our own 6. Give Josh Lynn a crack.

  • If he does end up at the dogs, it will be some back ended deal that doesn't really become bigger money until the last 2 years of the deal at which point they will look to off load him and screw someone elses cap... rinse and repeat just in time for the next wave of juniors are ready

    • The one thing on our side is Mitchell Moses. I'm not sure Galvin is ready to lead a side at 7 into the finals. For his development learning next to Moses at 6 is the best career option. If the dogs go south guess who is going to get all the blame ? Gus is going to put this kid under immense pressure lol

      • That's one way to look at it the other way is he may see a better way foward with Ciraldo that he does with JR.

The right now is us for sure because of what you mention but long term it's Gus Ciraldo and the Dogs the evidence is damning in there favour.

        • Other then buy everyone else's players what have the dogs actually done ? Ciraldo was running near the bottom of the ladder for a few years till they bought a starting 17 lineup 😂

"Sure, why not. I liked his enthusiasm and the kid is a goer. He really showed me he is better suited to FG than i thought he would be. Defence could be an issue, size doesn't help. But defence can be coached."
