Eels Teamsheet: R17 vs Warriors

Captain Cayless reaches 250 NRL games for Eels

Pirtek Parramatta Eels captain Nathan Cayless will play his 250th NRL game against the Warriors in New Zealand this Sunday at 4.00pm.

The Parramatta stalwart made his debut back in 1997 and has since captained New Zealand to a World Cup win and the Eels to two grand finals.

Three players will be given the chance to start their NRL careers on Sunday after Daniel Anderson named three debutantes on an extended bench, including new signing Manase Manuokafoa.

Back-rower Pat O’Hanlon, and props Pele Peletelese and Mitchell Allgood make up the six-man bench, with Anderson to make a decision on the final make-up of the side closer to the game.

Matthew Keating has been recalled to first grade at hooker while Jeff Robson moves back the halves. The Eels are missing Jarryd Hayne and Tim Mannah through Origin, Timana Tahu through suspension and Eric Grothe, Ben Smith and Justin Poore through injury.

Coach Anderson is excited about the influx of enthusiasm the rookies will bring to the side.

“Most of our injuries are only short term but it gives the opportunity for some of these players to make their debut and experience the NRL,” he explained.

“As these players start their career we have our captain reaching a prestigious milestone in his career and the fact Nathan has played all 250 games for the Eels shows his dedication to this club.”

  • Woohoo, Pat O'Hanlon may debut!
    • is he any good ?
    • Is Pat O'Hanlon John English's love child???
  • Yes, he is very promising. A tall, rangy backrower with the ability to run good lines and execute deft passes. Of course, he's very young so we shouldn't expect too much this weekend. As DA says, it's an opportunity to give these young kids a taste of first grade, not a license to 'save' the club from their current form slump!
    • Yeah i agree i don't expect them to win us the game, but its debuts are exciting to watch you find out what they are made of. Look at horo when he stepped in :) cannot wait :D
  • cant wait to see O'Hanlon, Pele and possibly Allgood get a run

Who is under an injury cloud? I know we always take a travelling reserve to NZ put 2 seems a little strange seeming they are all forwards!

Seems Ando is intent on Morts keeping lucky number 7. If we sign Cronk is he going to be a 5/8th??? haha
    • I think you'll see come gametime Robson will be doing most of the first receiver work.

I don't think its so much a case of any one else being under an injury cloud but more so of Ando not being sure who to include.

I'm thinking given that O'Hanlon has been named at 15, we're going to carry two second rowers on the bench with Hindmarsh moving up to prop during the game. I think we would suffer in terms of mobility trying to carry two of Allgood, Pele and Manas.
  • If the plans was to reintroduce MK at Hooker, why have him play 5/8th for wenty the past 3 weeks?

Was DA trying to stengthen his playmaking, passing, kicking game??
    • I think they wanted him to sharpen up his ball-playing.
  • who do you think would be the best pick?, who is better out of pele or Manuokafoa ??
