Big-money Eels star on verge of code switch
Eels grand final centre Waqa Blake could be the next player to make the move to rugby union.A few weeks ago Wide World of Sports reported that Blake is in danger of being squeezed out of Parramatta by salary cap pressure.
He is coming off contract at season's end and rival clubs are keen, but Blake may join the Western Force in Super Rugby for personal reasons. His young kids now live in Perth and I'm being told that he wants to be closer to them.
With no professionaleague team based in Perth, rugby union shapes as his best option. The Force would pay good money for a player of Blake's class and the Eels would not stand in his way.The Eels have spent much of their salary cap re-signing and upgrading members of their current squad.
Fijian-born Blake began his NRL career with the Panthers in 2015 but has been with the the Eels since midway through 2019, playing in last year's grand final.

Good news for Waqa ...hope he gets to live near his kids. Family is more important than playing NRL.
Eels should do all they can to bring his family to Sydney. This is a outrage!!
"Star" lol
Salary cap pressure is the most alarming part of this article for me. We are bursting at the seams and our squad is pretty dire. No team can survive the modern game with well over 2 million invested in their halves unless those halves are amazing. Even Penrith aren't paying that kinda coin, ditto Melbourne, and yet they're the closest to us and look how much they've had to weaken their squads of late to keep them.
I meamtion these clubs because they have halves on the closest amount to ours , although going by rumoured salaries we pip them all. And now the chatters insinuating that Penrith won't be able to afford to keep Luai when contract rolls around.
Cleary 1.3
Luai 700
Munster 1 mil
Hughes 900k
Moses 1.1 / 1.2 ( debatebale as to which, smart moneys on 1.2 )
Brown 900k ( again cloudy )
Munster more closer to 1.6m than 1m.....no question about it, black money from the chairman.
Then what's to say Moses ain't on 2.2 ? Or 5.6 ?
We are going off reported , rumoured and what's in writing.
Come on Brissey the Dolphins play nothing like the Eels. The Dolphins give the ball air, they like to go wide, there forwards thrive on 2nd phase and they have line speed.
There wide running 2nd rowers cause a bit of havoc.
You mean to say that Cleary and Lua'a are not on more (Cleary 1.4m) Lua 800k and going north. Melb halves 1.6m and 900k as usual Wiz, dont let the facts spoil your agenda.
NB it is not that we have missed any backs or lost them because of no funds? Tell me who we went after and missed?
So one minute we have $1 million available to secure an X factor player and be active in the market - NEK MINNIT
