GALVIN SHOCKS EELS
Lachlan Galvin’s decision to join Canterbury has gone down like a lead balloon with Sydney rivals the Eels.
Sport Confidential can reveal Parramatta bosses were supremely confident of securing Galvin and believed they had their man before being ambushed by the Bulldogs.
It is understood the Eels had tabled a multi-year, $1 million-a-season deal for Galvin to partner Mitchell Moses at the Parramatta scrumbase next year.
But the Wests Tigers young gun shocked the Eels by taking less to go to the Bulldogs.
Galvin’s management have been criticised for allegedly brainwashing the teenager but the 19-year-old made the call to reject Parramatta of his own volition.

Understood but in the same context at Melbourne as an example and Riff positions could be locked up but players stay now I'm not privy to what's happening in the back round for guys like Howarth and Fa'alongo as examples to stay but for some reason these guys stay.
Blaise had the opportunity to stay and still play FG but as you say playing under the Clearys proved to enticing.
Your right about JR and I've been saying this for years but if the club can't provide JR or any previous coach the tools how are they expected to take the fight to the Melbourne's of the comp it's like taking a knife to a gunfight.
Rubbish. Blaise thought he was going to a premiership winning team to be mentored by Nathan Cleary. Lachie thinks he going to a team that can win a comp if not this year but in the near future & to be mentored by Ciraldo & Vella.
Pretty stupid statement given you have no idea what JR's vision is or what he said to these young men.
As you say reportedly, so who reported it?
Parra wanted to keep Blaise it's well documented JR was involved trying to keep him much like the Galvin chase the mentioned spoke to and told JR firstly that he wasn't coming here.
JR was even on Fox telling the world if Galvin was available we were interested weeks ago.JR has come out on fox sport saying he spoke to and also said we were a good shot at getting him but came up short.
Parramatta wanted to keep Blaise & sign Lachie, yes agree, but they decided to go to teams who they believed could win a comp. Doesn't mean the vision that Ryles was selling is wrong & possibly could bring success in a few years time.
You mentioned that what JR was selling went down the gurgler. It implies that JR's vision is wrong which but they simply went to teams they thought could win a comp & be mentored by Cleary & Ciraldo/Vella respectively.
No the only thing I'm implying here is we need to be finding ways to hold onto such talents is all that's the big picture here.
Melbourne Riff of recent times are seemingly able to do it why are we not able.
This is the thing when we talk about trying to end a premiership drought do we have everything aligned the retention and recruitment of players to do so hence why I'm very critical of certain aspects of our club.
Basically your asking JR to fight a battle with one hand behind his back. There's a reason we've had 8 coaches in the last 25 years.
It did read that way but apologise for misinterpreting.
Agree that recruitment & retention is diabolical and the reason we're not premiership contenders at the moment. Because we're not premiership contenders, I believe that's why we didn't retain Blaise or recruit Lachie. If we were, I believe we would have been a great chance, even given our poor recruitment & retention.
The club is poorly managed from a recruitment & retention point of view, and agree holding this power club back. But how long can we call ourselves a power club when we have no success.
Thanks for debate.
Zero apology required you have your opinions and thoughts about it.
Respect.
It's easy Coryn , to play in junior reps for the parramatta club you must be signed until 21yo.
The Eels can loan you to other clubs but until released by Parramatta or you hit 20 yo your not able to negotiate with any clubs without the clubs permission.
This would do two things , enable the club to properly understand the talent available in their junior systems and properly manage their roster over time.
It would also take some power away from player managers using the junior systems as shop windows for other clubs to poach our junior talent .
Players using our well resourced junior pathway systems without the club reaping the long term rewards.
The Melbournes, Broncos and Roosters do something similar already .
The media bang on about how well these clubs foster and hold on to junior talent and the clubs culture , blah blah, blah , blah there all paid very well at very young age .
These clubs stockpile the best talent, the best way to foster culture and quickly is to buy it.
Once you've recruited and retained the best up and coming young talent you only need to go to market to fill your needs and you can pay top dollar to do so.
Rinse and repeat.
Sign these kids early , pay them well and you have a family invested in your club.
Sickening to here such a simple solution.
The question is what are our powers that be thinking.
Its why I'm still very concerned going foward.I'm also not convinced our talent Identification is upto scratch either. Also hate that we don't spread our net looking for talent aswell.
